Can anyone tell me if I want to take SAT II History, how long should I prepare for it?

Thanks darkruler for your reply. I have considered retaking Math IIC and taking Physics, but maybe I should think again about it.

ivynut, you're 100% guranteed to get into HYSP

Ah well, time to concentrate on other things.

go-vibe

i doubt that. those are amazing scores, but ppl with 2400 SATs get rejected, so what makes you think perfect SAT II scores will get ivynut in for sure.

But I'm jealous.

If you have already taken a USH class, brush over some review books. If not, don't take it; ists too much to prepare for.

About the variety, just have some different subjects. Don't have all science and math if you also have experience with another field. I guess the best thing would be Math II, as so many colleges require it, + 2 tests, each from a different field, which includes science, history, language, or the literature test. Im not saying two sciences and a math is bad, it's just a science, a math and something else would be better.

Biology M 690
French 760

Disappointed with French, a little upset overall. It could have been worse, I guess.

And it ****es me off a lot that the bio curve was so tough. Because colleges won't know that we had a tough curve, they'll just assume it was another average test.

Will it look better that i took both of these tests as a sophomore?

Zachsta...I don't think they see it that way. Even IF they don't see the percentages, I assume that if they see too many "Bio screw-ups", they will notice something amiss.

I'm pretty sure they will know the percentages...AP grade distributions are easily accessible on the ap site and are condensed in a simple spreadsheet for reference. I would imagine something similar is available for satii ranges. Adcoms probably have these things hanging on bulletin boards in their rooms...lol.
and now i feel really dumb about my physics 750....79th percentile...geez did that stink. i was so happy when i saw the 750 for the first time though.

...You're better off than me (740 here). Meh. Oh well. XD

750 and 740 don't stink too bad. I don't know what you're complaining about.

My son is a freshman at boarding school in the US and he got 680 in SAT 11 Bio E. Should he retake?

He seems quite uninformed about the importance of the SAT 11 subject tests for the purpose of college admission. Can anyone elaborate? How many SAT 11 subjects should one have ideally?

Is any consideration given for the fact that he took the test as a freshman?

Most top colleges need at least two, some need 3. It is compulsary. I wouldn't talk about a cut-off, but if I was applying to a top college, I retake anything below a 760. But that's just me.

BIo(m)-700
spanish-730

To Nadash above -- Although I'm sure many do, if you think that everyone/nearly everyone who gets accepted to Ivy League schools has 760+ on all his/her SAT IIs, you're crazy.

My June scores:

Literature 660 (Oh God.. Retake in November, right after I retake the SAT in October to bump up my Critical Reading from 650.. Yeah, reading comp = not my forte.)
Math Level 1 740 (Def no retake, my best SAT II score so far, and I think Math Level 1 has one of the lowest averages, if not the lowest.)

Yes...Of course. But I would think getting above 760 will show your competency in that subject and prevent the SATs from becoming a weakness in your application.

760 Bio M...
first sat ii ever as a freshman having taken biology honors and studied the night before... but i thought i did better i expected 780 according to the realsat curve...
i want to apply to hyps and mit to do something related in math or engineering... should i retake?

math II- 800
bio e - 650 (***? retaking in fall)

Do colleges ever put any consideration into the year in which you took the test? for example, I just got a 760 on French (which I'm pleased with) and a 690 on bio (which I'm NOT pleased with) as a sophomore...do you think they'll be a little more lenient with my bio score considering i didn't take it as a junior/senior?

Dream school=Columbia, by the way
