Do boost some of you "low" scorers moral, I will tell you my scores
Math 2C~ 710. I am happy as I didnt really prep.
Chemistry~ 730. Post AP test nothingness contributed to this but I am quite sure I got a 5 so dont care.
Spanish~ 590. Won the national spanish exam county when I took it during AP season. So post AP nothingness again.

For your info, I am quite happy with my scores and probably will retake Spanish for placement purposes.

i think my chem score was completely a fluke.. i got a 710-740 on all of the practice tests, and the most i got was a 780 on ONE really easy princeton test.

it must've been super easy this year then. i mean, i HATE chem and ironically it was what made me want to cancel. but instead i did well!

so matter what your gut feelings are, i guess you should take if you think you have a chance :) like me.

ananmonous, no you shoudnt retake it. 760 is damn good and taking a subject test really isnt as important as the regular SAT. At least i think. well anyway, your other scores are real good and you probably have lists and lists of other stuff goin for you. bottom line is dont kill yourself studying for a lousy 40 points. just taking the test and scoring that well should be enough

I am a sophomore (I took AP Phys B this year and intro physic last year) going into junior year.

I got a 780 on my SAT II Physics test.

I am almost postive I can get an 800 if I retake considering I got it multiple times on forced in-class practice tests and didn't study outside of that for the sat ii. I had a migraine during the test that made it hard for me to concentrate because it blurred my vision (didn't hurt my head tho).

However, I fear:
a)coming off as an ultracompetitive jerk
b)it is statiscally insignificant so it doesn't matter that it is 20 pts less
c)very slim possibility I do worse

Should I retake? I will apply to Ivy's, Stanford, etc (not MIT or Caltech type tho).

P.S. The ppl who actually go on this message board are the very best students (they are neurotic enough to track down this website and have enough demonstrated interest to post.)

speaking of retakes....is it worth it to retake a 760 math iic if i think i can do better? i feel like 760 is horrible with the majority of people on this site getting 800s!! lol

there is pretty much no point in retaking anything about a 700. Maybe you can retake 700-720 but thats it. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 780 AND AN 800. you people completely misunderstand SATs. They are tests to show that you can perform well across the board compared to everyone else in the country. They aren't the end all and be all of college admissions. If you prove you are competent (like about 700 for ivies) then SATs are no longer looked at. A 740 versus an 800 is not going to keep you out of anywhere, nor is it going to open any more doors. College admissions is about extra curriculars, character elements and potential, not about standardized test scores. If you retake a 720+ you are wasting your time and your money, and feeding into the illusion of high stakes testing that the college board has instilled in this country. They just want your money. keep that in mind.
