June SAT Math II Thread

@collegebound: That’s a bit of an exaggeration, isn’t it? The curve for an 800 is about -5 or 6, so how is 7 or so that steep of a drop? Granted, squid got 5 wrong, but that means his/her raw score is 41.75 which rounds up to a 42.

@Lordfarquaad: …You’re kidding right? 53/50?

Well that’s good news. So barring any misbubbles I think I got a 50!!!

collegebound, are you sure? just checked the blue book curve…apparently 41.75 raw would be a 780. Is the blue book curve too lenient?

@squigglysquid: Could you post the score conversion from the blue book please? I (shockingly) don’t have it and I’m curious to see what the raw scores would be around…

@collegebound9528: It varies from year to year, but I’d estimate about a 5 pt. curve.

LOL! Typo: 43-44!

Ya easy tests have -6 curve, medium are -7, hard are -8.

50-44: 800
43: 790
42: 780
41: 770
and drops steadily after that. is this too lenient? i have 4-5 confirmed wrong, 2 omit…should i get ready to retake? especially if i want to be an engineering major?

Here are the curves for collegeboard’s released tests:

42-50: 800
41-790
40-780
39-770
37-38: 760
36-750

43-50: 800
42-790
41-780
40-770
39-760
38-750

43-50: 800
42-790
41-780
40-770
39-760
38-750

44-50: 800
43-790
42-780
41-770
40-760
39-750

@Newton391244 I’m quite sure the answer to that problem was 90.

I’d say this test was a 43 or 44 or an 800. Definitely not hard enough for a 42.

Thank you both eobaggs and squigglysquid!

@collegebound9528: Every SAT II test is different in levels of difficulty and groups of people who take it. Math II is much more difficult than Biology (which is a complete joke pretty much). Languages are curved extremely little because there are so many native speakers taking it.

@collegebound9528: They are in collegeboard’s released books. [Amazon.com: The Official SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics Levels 1 & 2 Study Guide (9780874477726): The College Board: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Official-Subject-Tests-Mathematics-Levels/dp/0874477727/ref=pd_sim_b_3)

Predicted 780-800
Raw score: 42.25-43.5

im sorry if this sounds pretentious or anything - but should I retake a 780/790 math II? I’m interested in top schools for engineering, and I’m doing a research internship this summer at UCLA engineering so would it look strange that I don’t have an 800 on math? My other scores are 760 Chem and 780 Bio and 34 ACT. Sorry for the rant I just want to see if I still have a shot at top schools with these scores or should I start looking elsewhere. Also, I’m a junior so I don’t have loads and loads of time to retake these… :(

I’d say to not bother retaking them with a 780 or 790, especially if you’re not Asian (if you’re Asian, it still doesn’t matter enough to bother). Are you a sophmore right now or a junior?

consolidated list D;

@newton, many people confirmed 0<x<pi

@Newton: i seriously don’t think there was a restriction on that question…the 0<x<pi 2=“” restriction=“” was=“” in=“” place=“” for=“” the=“” i=“” ii=“” iii=“” sin=“” 2theta=“”> sintheta, cos 2theta< cos theta question, but I dont think it was there for the ln(sin) question</x<pi>

@chewy: well I’m indian, and I’m going to be a senior in the fall. I’m taking Calc III/Linear Algebra next year (just finished Calc BC) and Physics C so I have all the coursework, but not so much the top notch scores. I’ve heard retaking a 790 Math II looks bad to admission officers, so I really don’t know what to do!! And this whole situation sucks because I got -0 to -1 on all 3 Barrons tests and the Blue Book Test :(

@grojos: I side with Newton on this one. It was one of the last problems I did, and I remember it being an oddball.

@squigglysquid: Wow at the course load. Do like I’m doing to myself right now; Think to yourself, “If I get a 7xx, I will be happy and not retake it. Right now, I cannot debate a retake unless I completely flunked the test, which I did not. I will wait until my score comes out on June 24 before I contemplate a retake, if necessary.”

i really dont even remember a restriction for that problem. but other people say there is one. i think you guys are mixing it up with the sin2x sinx problem

the ln(sinx)=0 problem seems to be pretty controversial, I was rushing with 1 min. left doing that problem (i came back to it) and I don’t remember if there was a restriction. just did ln(pi/2) and one of the answers matched. I think they wanted people to recognize that ln(1)=0 and find x for sinx=1.
