Hey, I’m a junior and I am thinking about colleges to apply to next fall! Through my extensive research I have found a few I really like. They are (in order of my “favorite” to least: but I love them all)

Penn (DREAM): will probably apply ED no matter what anyone says

Cornell

Columbia

Boston College

Northeastern University

Villanova University

Loyola College in Maryland

SUNY Geneseo

SUNY Binghamton

Boston University

Not sure on major yet, maybe business, maybe engineering (I don’t think anything out of liberal arts)

Okay here are my stats. I know most of the colleges listed are reaches but what can I do to raise my chances if you believe they are incredibly low?

SAT I: took it recently and was sick for the test and my grade wasn’t what i expected at all (1890); taking it again at least one more time (really shooting for 2200 or over… I have been getting that on practice tests so I am pretty confidant I can do it)
GPA: W: 96 UW: 93
Class Rank: 2nd Decile (may be first by the end of this year)
Very Rigorous Courseload
One AP this year (U.S.); 6 next year (Gov, Calc, Physics, Enviro, Spanish, Lit)
Very competitive high school
EC’s are good (don’t feel like listing them all and I bet you wouldn’t want to read them all): I have shown dedication to a select couple, leadership positions, awards, and a diverse list of activities.

Okay, I know my chances might now be incredibly high and it might be hard to chance me but if you can do the best you can to write what my chances would be it would be incredibly appreciated!!

Please right next to the school which number you believe corresponds…
1- safety (definately should get in)
2- low match (75% chance of acceptance)
3- match (50% chance)
4- high match (25% chance)
5- Reach (10% chance or lower)
6- No Chance at all. Haha

It’s hard to tell because the depth of your EC’s are incredibly important. If you raise your SAT scores however, things will be more possible for you for sure. You definitely seem to be on the right track, and you seem very realistic about it (I like the fact that you have a good range of reaches, matches, and safeties). But from what I can tell (I’m a junior myself), you seem to be on the right track with a good number of your schools. To get into your dream school, you’d definitely have to raise your SATs. Just keep on doing what you’re doing, and get started early on some kickass essays that really highlight your passions.

Penn (DREAM) 5

Cornell 4.5

Columbia 5

Boston College 2.5

Northeastern University 2

Villanova University idk

Loyola College in Maryland idk

SUNY Geneseo idk

SUNY Binghamton 2

Boston University 2

Your main problem is your GPA. A 93 UW isn’t quite Ivy material. Get it to a 94 and you’ll have a decent shot (well, at least relative to other applicants) at those reaches.

Umm think about your senior year courseload before you make a final decision on it. 6 sounds great…but you are taking 1 this year. Do you think you can handle 6 APs next year? I’m not saying that you can’t…just think about the workload, alongside your ECs and college apps and make a conservative decision. Many juniors don’t realize the time apps take to complete until they are actually suffering from a lack of sleep in their senior year.

Yeah i spent a lot of time looking over courses for next year. I wanted to take more this year, but the tracks I was taking had honors courses this year and led to AP’s next year. That’s why all my classes will be AP.
