@Axelrod: I can see that you are getting upset about this. The main point of this thread is to help people who have questions about NYU. Please feel free to send me a private message and we can talk there as I mentioned in my last post directed towards you. Continuing to post on my thread in this negative manner gives me the impression that you are simply trying to “■■■■■” my thread.

@elh330: I do not know much about that specific exploration floor. But I have a friend living in an exploration floor at Palladium (upperclassmen dorm) and he loves the experience. Overall NYU does a great job of building a good community based on that interest. I’m sure if your interests align with that exploration floor, you’ll end up enjoying yourself!

For Stern what is the average GPA of someone accepted? I have a 2300 SAT score and 11 APs mostly through my senior year. I wanted to know how much of an impact would it make that 6 out of my 8 APs are in senior year. Will this reflect poorly or have no impact besides that fact that they won’t be able to see the grades for these courses?

Not upset, just trying to correct misinformation about the effect one’s undergraduate school has on law school & medical school admission chances. Nor am I trying to “■■■■■” your thread.

@surish So I’m gonna have an interesting question for ya.

I’m a white female from Texas applying to Stern ED1
GPA: 3.73/4.22w
ACT: 32
RANK: 23/522 (top 4%)

Besides what you think my chances are, I am worried about the social scene at NYU. I guess I’m just gonna say that I am a virgin, and probably will be until I enter college, and its not like I am a prude or haven’t had experiences with guys, I just havent dated the best guys up until now.
I know NYU is just stock full of gay guys, and Stern is stock full of Asian guys (which I am open to, btw, just they typically arent interested— why would you be when you could get an Asian girl?) But on top of that, the 60/40 thing is a little concerning for a girl who doesnt put out or “hook up” with the first straight guy she sees. Can I survive in the middle of New York City?

@Surish, I just read your first post on this thread and you managed to transfer into stern! Congratulations! I myself am interested in similar subjects as you. May I ask what your stats were when you transferred in? I heard internal transfers were near impossible, but I have also heard the contrary so I am conflicted… I hope you can respond back!

@thawowtso: You have a really strong shot especially since you’re applying ED and a white female. Also trust me, you have nothing to worry about. There are tons of quality guys that aren’t trying to just hook up and will work for a relationship. I know sororities have a negative stereotype in general, it’s a great way to meet single guys. Tons of brothers in my fraternity prefer having a steady/serious girlfriend rather than pointless hook-ups. I hope this has eased you a bit, but let me know if you have more questions.

@Jumpin95: My stats are probably not indicative of the requirements needed for internal transferring. In general if you have the following, you’ll stand a good chance of getting in:

-3.6+ GPA
-A/A- in Microeconomics and Calculus I
-Solid reason for wanting to transfer

Also as for my stats, they were much higher than what was needed. Let me know if you have any more questions.

@surish. Thanks for your response! In true Texan nature I do intend to join a sorority— I don’t have anything against sorority stereotypes, and it’s nice to know that there are such things as relationships at NYU haha.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for Stern, but there’s nothing to do now but sit back and wait

@Surish, thanks dude but I don’t know why so many people say that internal transfers are EXTREMELY hard (harder than external transfers). Also, do you recommend me taking AP econ test in May? I aim to get 5’s on both micro and macro. Also, can I PM you another question, it’s sort of personal.

^ I’m not Surish but take AP econ for sure, the only reason Stern microeconomics has the worst curve ever is that it’s designed horribly and you have to know microeconomics already to get an A. You don’t get credit for your AP econ test though.

@thawowtso: Good luck and if you get in, feel free to reach out to me if you want to learn more about NYU Greek Life!

@Jumpin95: Since you have done well in both AP Micro and Macro, I doubt that the AP Econ test will add any value. Stern doesn’t have a purely Macroeconomics class so you will not be able to place out of the class and you will still need to take an NYU test to place out of the AP Micro class. My knowledge is a bit rusty so please double check before you make any decisions.

@Surish: It’s really intriguing and inspiring reading your posts, thank you for your sharings. I want to know which school were you in before transferring to Stern. And I have a feeling that my hard scores are a bit weak for Stern so I’m thinking of applying to LSP then transfer to Stern after 2 years. What do you think about this indirect way of getting to Ster, which I am very interested in; is it really difficult to transfer to Stern from LSP, what’s the chance and criteria for it and do you have some actual successful stories that you can share? Thanks in advance:)

@Cindirella: I was in CAS studying Econ/Psychology with the intention of going to law school. I do not know what LSP has evolved into but when I was a freshman, you got placed into that program when you did not get accepted into your school of choice but NYU still wanted you. If that is still the case, you should apply to CAS and if you’re accepted, you can take Stern classes for the Business Studies Minor because those classes will easily transfer over to Stern (if you are accepted) since they are also a part of Stern’s Gen. Ed. curriculum. You could also work on your Morse Academic Plan (MAP) classes which is part of everyone’s curriculum regardless of undergraduate school. If LSP has changed to become a stand alone program and you feel like you’re chances for CAS (or any other NYU school besides Stern) is dismal, then you should apply directly to LSP.

As for success stories regarding transferring from LSP to Stern, I know that it is possible. My fraternity brother transferred at the end of his sophomore year and he had around a 3.65ish GPA. He was also on the CAS track studying Economics and had tons of leadership positions at NYu. On the other hand though, I know a student from LSP that had a 3.8 GPA that was rejected. I’m not sure why the latter was rejected, maybe it was because of his essays, lack of leadership or because he was Indian. (Stern is full of Asians by the way.)

At the end of the day though, do not simply go to LSP with the intention of transferring into Stern. You should come to NYU because you love the atmosphere/culture of the city and NYU. You could also consider externally transferring so that you can attend a cheaper school.

Also many students come to Stern because it is a powerhouse in Accounting and Finance but really do not know the first thing about those fields. I suggest exploring your options, you may end up enjoying Management or Marketing instead. While Stern has reputable departments in both areas, other schools are better known for those fields and hence the “prestigious” firms of those industries tend to recruit there.

What I am trying to say is that you shouldn’t be so dead set on Stern. Explore your options and maybe even consider other schools. I feel like applying to LSP with the intention of transferring to Stern is a bad idea. Rather apply to your state school (if it is good) or a cheaper private university and then transfer to the business school that best fits what you want down the road.

I am an Indian student with SAT 2040/2400 and SAT II in Maths 2 730/800. I am doing IB. Very good scores, essays, and recommendations. Very good extra curricular including captain of the cricket team, achievements at school, medals in track and field. etc. I am considering applying to Stern’s undergraduate program for 2013. What do you think my chances are?

I am an Indian student with SAT 2040/2400 and SAT II in Maths 2 730/800. I am doing IB. Very good scores, essays, and recommendations. GPA 3.9/5.0. What do you think my chances are?

I was wondering if you would be able to chance me for NYU (which is currently my first choice) and possibly give me advice as how to better prepare myself (in terms of college apps and meeting requirements and all)–I’m currently a Junior. Here are my stats:

-3.96 Unweighted GPA (I calculated it myself–my school doesn’t calculate GPA, so it might be a tad off.)
-I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but I got a 182 on my PSAT (with very little, if no studying). I’m aiming to get a 2000 or above when I take the SAT this winter (do you think I’ll be able to reach my goal)?
-APs: Calc AB, French, Biology (Possibly Environmental Science, English, Statistics, and Psychology for senior year)
-Extra-Curriculars: Teach three to five year-old children at church, Interfaith program, Diversity Club at my school, Interfaith Club at my school, Tutoring (at my school and elsewhere), (Student) Ambassador (give tours at my school), School’s Newspaper, Summer Engineering Program, Mentor for Summer Engineering Program (summer after I was an actual student), Drama Productions at my school (acting and tech), Tennis, Assistant to Middle School Tennis Coach

Right now, I’m interested in (Global) Public Health, as well as Psychology and English (Literature). How would I fare if I applied to the College of Arts and Sciences and/or Steinhardt?

@Makmakmak: Honestly I think they are on the low side. You have great ECs and you’re strong score on the Math subject test shows you’re good with numbers. However your GPA and SAT scores are on the low end for Stern. See if you can at least retake the SAT and improve your score, it might be a bit late for your GPA to significantly improve.

@Kluxshana: In general, I think the school you should be applying to is CAS since it covers the things you are interested in. First off, your GPA looks really strong but I also need to know your rank. While I trust you put a lot of work into calculating your GPA, rank will provide a better measure of how you did relative to your peers. Your ECs look great and your course load looks rigorous (if you did the extra APs your senior year). Just study hard for the SAT if you really want to secure your spot at NYU. To put this in perspective, the class of 2014 (my class) had an average SAT score of 2100. This goal definitely seems doable considering you did well on the PSAT w/o studying.

If you are dead set on NYU, you could always apply to LSP or Steinhardt (which I’ve heard do not have as high hard number requirements). However I don’t suggest doing this. If you know what you want, then you should aim for that rather then settling.

I’m Indian and a male and my SAT superscore is 2170 (760 M, 720 CR, and 690 W) with a 770 math 2 and a 720 bio M

My GPAis 95.17 out of 100 and I am in top 10%

I am Vice President of fundraising for NHS and placed 8th overall in DECA business finance in state conference and I do Model UN and I’m the defense attorney for the mock trial team and I also did soccer and track
