Junior AP classes

Can whoever took ap chemistry fully describe the experience? Thanks so much.
How was the math un ther i and electro? How much time to spend per night? Why is it considered the hardest ap class? How are labs and lab reports graded?

Thanks to all

AP chem isn’t hard. The math is basically simple algebra so you don’t have to be a math wiz to do well. The problem is that most people understand concepts in chem but don’t develop their skill. If you’re doing less than thirty homework problems per chapter then you will suffer when it comes time to the AP exam. I took the redesigned AP exam this year an it may not have as much math on it but it still requires the same level of problem solving skill.

If you spend more than 1.5 hours then you are doing something wrong. 45 minutes is if you want to learn the material and get a decent grade and exam score.

It’s considered hard because for other APs you can read and focus only on understanding concepts. In chemistry you have to develop logic and problem solving skills (same reason why physics and calculus are hard for most students). Doesn’t mean the humanities don’t require substantial thought, study and intellectual discourse but they require very little skill.

My class only did 4 labs and we just worked through them and turned in the lab report and it was 20% of our grade. Nothing really weird here.

I have to strongly disagree with this… I don’t see how spending 1.5 hours on chem homework is “wrong.” If a student is struggling, it’s most certainly not “wrong” to spend a bit more time on the homework in order to fully understand the material. I spend at least an hour on homework sometimes, and part of it is looking up solutions and talking through it with my friends to ensure that I understand it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, so just ignore everything jimmyboy23 said about homework.

AP Chem CAN BE HARD. I honestly don’t know what jimmyboy23 is talking about, but don’t expect an easy class. It’s not like it’s impossible, but it’s really challenging, even to the best students in Honors Chemistry. If you like a good challenge, then the class is for you. It just consists of a lot of memorization and application and problem-solving, but regular practice will help you immensely. It’s considered the “hardest” because it’s not really for anyone. You really have to get chemistry, which not everybody does, and the wrong teacher can totally mess things up for you.

I’m currently taking the class, so I can’t really explain the grading rubric for labs and lab reports. Every teacher is different, so it really depends.

Anyways, good luck and have fun in AP Chem! Hope this helped :)

What are the averga grades for tests labs etc?
What do most people who put a lot of effort get in the course?

AP Chem is not the hardest AP class. All these questions you are asking we cant answer because those are specific to your school and your teacher.
