Junior Book Awards?

what exactly are they, and what is their level of prestige?

I’ve been wondering this too! I got our school’s Harvard Book Award this week and don’t know anything about it.

I think it doesn’t matter much. I got one from Brynn Mawr, which was a frigging paper back with an endorsement from Rosie O 'Donnel on the cover. The Northwestern one is really cool though. I was so jeal of R. He got TWO books AND a plaque.

Book awards are to advertise the school really and your high school picks who it goes to. It’s not prestigious, but more like a recognition that you’re a good student.

Question: rumor has it the Harvard Book Award waives the application fee. I am skeptical. Thoughts?

I got the Harvard Book Award, too!

Did anyone get awards from the University of Rochester? I got the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award for social sciences and humanities.

yale book award anyone?

lol harvard book award, i got that

My friend got U of Rochester; it comes with the chance to maybe get this specific scholarship or something. My other friend got RPI, it comes with a scholarship if he gets in. I got Wellesley. (woot smart friends)

I got the science U Rochester award. I’m guessing it’s distributed for people in the area of that college. Our school doesn’t hand out any “book” awards, this is the first I’ve heard of them. Is it literally just a book? The U R one had a pretty nice scholarship attached to it.

Mine came with a book. and a Card from an alumni. and a thing to give Wellesley my information.

I got the Yale Book Award and the science Bausch & Lomb one from U. Rochester. The Rochester one came with a waved application fee and a chance for a decent scholarship, so that was nice.

They are awarded by your guidance counselor. It’s a nice little thing and it means that you’re very highly regarded by your counselors. It’s also a way for colleges to get more people to apply.

I got the College of the Holy Cross

I’ve never heard of it before. =/

I don’t think they give those out at my school. Is it only for publics?

^ Nah, it’s for all participating schools. They’re sometimes given out during an honors convocation, or any ceremony like that. Your counselors (and teachers, maybe) nominate you for the award.

The book awards are usually just a means of advertising (attaching a sense of prestige to the college), but some either come with a fee waiver or provide you with a scholarship.

I got the Smith College book award. Waived application fee, woot!

I got the St. Michael’s Book Award - I think I can apply for a scholarship…

My school doesn’t offer any book awards. As a bookworm, I feel like I’m missing out here. XD
