Hi, if anyone has a moment, please try to give me some feedback on my chances of acceptance for 2013 for UF.

you should always include what major you’re applying for because some are “harder” to get in to…
Regardless your unweighted seems low :/

Not to be rude, but my unweighted seems low according to what statistic? According to the college board website, 17% of applicants accepted fall within my GPA range, not to mention the 31% that fall beneath that.

For the record, I’m applying as a Biology major on a pre-med track.

Well not to be rudeee, but since you obviously know better and have all your little statistics you have no need to come on here asking :)

p.s- Obviously having a 4.0GPA doesn’t guarantee acceptance, meaning that GPA alone isn’t a deciding factor BUT from what I know (people who post on here, personal experience, friends ect) UF is very demanding when it comes to GPA. Everyone I know of who has applied with a GPA below 3.5 has always been turned down, but hey, maybe your essays blow them away or you impress them some other way. Bio is very competetive and “hard” to get into, since it’s a limited access program, but who knows. You’re asking for someone to “chance you”, which is an opinion and that is mine. That is all.

For those admitted to UF in February 2012 for the Class of 2016, the stats were as follows:

Mid 50% GPA: 4.1-4.5
Average GPA: 4.30
Mid 50%SAT-1830-2070
Average SAT: 1960
Mid 50% ACT:28-32
Average ACT 30 Composite

Total Applications Including Innovation Academy: 32,289
Admitted for Fall: 7300
Admitted for Summer A or B:3300
Admitted for Inovation Academy:1366

Enrollment Target: Fall, Summer A & B :6,400
Innovation Academy:500

Thus if you are more than one statistical deviation below the mean admission is much more difficult. EC’s the essay and other factors will be very important. UF is under severe budget restraints and competition is expected to push the Class of 2017 application numbers beyond 33,000. It will be very important to raise GPA and improve SAT/ACT scores. remember UF does not consider senior grades in admission decisions. They only use them to match schedule listed in application and to recind admission of senior grades represent a large drop in academic performance.

You do, however, have great ECs and have taken a good amount of courses, which UF will definitely recognize. Just pull up that GPA and the SAT score, and you should be fine. (:

Not to be rude, but my unweighted seems low according to what statistic? According to the college board website, 17% of applicants accepted fall within my GPA range, not to mention the 31% that fall beneath that.

Well, according to the UF website, 5600 people applied with a GPA from 3.3-3.69, and only 340 were accepted. And this was in 2011 – admission is becoming more difficult.

Just by the way.

Is this for freshmen admissions? because in that case they don’t take into consideration what major you are applying with.

Also, I would say UF is a stretch. you should definitely still apply, because a lot of IB students get in here, and you have some great extracurriculars, but that GPA and those test scores are really going to hold you back.

You should try to get your GPA up as high as possible this semester, and also raise your test scores. I would suggest taking whichever one you do better in again in Fall.

PrettyPeridot- not to call you out or anything, but maybe you could be a little less sarcastic and rude in your answers? just throwing that out there.

your sat score right now will not cut it.

i’m glad glasswright mentioned this, but i’ll reiterate it because it was the first thing mentioned: YOUR INTENDED MAJOR IS NOT AN ADMISSIONS FACTOR. literally half of the students at UF change their major at some point. it means nothing.

Danielle2400: It makes sense that being below average in more than one area is a big problem. However, I am planning to retake the SATs in June in addition to the ACTs. Since I’m not all that far below their average, and since I have been studying a lot, I think I can definitely bring up my score at least 30 points.

I’m not sure if this makes a difference, but I just recalculated my GPA again, and my UF GPA is actually a 4.05.

I was also wondering if the intended major was a factor because I have never been told that before, so thank you for clarifying.

As far as unweighted GPA, there really isn’t much I can do for this last semester to get into the 3.5 range, so that will probably one area where I fall short.

I personally think that you’ll get in, provided you bring up your SAT score. Like I said, you have great extracurriculars, and a strong course load (IB and extra classes).

Thanks for your opinion! everyone is talking about admissions lately and it’s driving me insane. Practically every IB student from my school ends up at UF, with a few exceptions.

Keep working hard and try for FSU honors.

Truthfully, I think you have a great chance! Don’t give up and keep working hard!

Your essay is very important, so work hard on it. If you’re very prospective, you may want to look into the Innovation Academy. Research it and such and if it interests you, you can indicate interest on the application. Once UF admits you, it’ll depend if they want you as a IA or traditional student. If your major isn’t included in IA or your not interested, then just don’t indicate interest.

Have fun and keep up the work!

UF LOVES IB STUDENTS and they really reward you for doing the most rigorous program available to you and having exceptional extra-currics. In my opinion, you will definitely get in, provided that you maintain your GPA and try to increase that SAT score by atleast 30 points.

Good luck on the IB program, im doing IB too and its only going to get tougher and tougher. So finish your college essays and request recommendations ASAP!

goood luck!

Well, not to let anyone think this Junior can’t get in for next year, but I’ll put my stats up. I got accepted for Class of 2016 with:

SAT: 1760; CR: 540, M: 660, W: 560
ACT: 26
UW GPA: 3.369
W: 4.269
ECs: Pharmacy Class President
HOSA (competed in districts and state)
FBLA
NHS
SECME
AP’s: APUSH (4), AP Bio (1)
Major: Chemistry
Essay: Really great. Had a bunch of people review it.

UF is basically a chance school. Some top kids don’t get accepted there, but get accepted to Ivies, which makes no sense to me.

Hello! I just got accepted into UF Friday, so I’ll try to help you out!

Your GPA looks fair, but I would definitely try to find out what you’re weighted GPA is and take the tests soon. Your ECs look good, but next year definitely try to obtain some leadership positions! Also, definitely take as many AP classes as you can.

From reading the UF C/O 17 threads, I couldn’t tell you the “secret” to getting into UF. I know a few people who were in the IB program, with 30-32 on the ACT and upper 2000s on the SAT who got rejected. It’s crazy. This year it seems that GPA mattered much more than test score, but I could be wrong.

My stats:

ACT: 25
SAT: 1710
GPA unweighted: 3.97 (out of 4.0)
weighted: 4.7 (out of 4.8)
ECS: 4 year varsity softball player, team captain. 4 year HOSA member, President. Also President of the region for this club (all surrounding schools in the county). Member of 3 other clubs. 100+ CS by volunteering at the local hospital, humane society, and health clinics. ETC
Employment: Peachwave Frozen Yogurt for 2 years
AP classes: AP bio, AP psych, AP Stat, AP Lit, AP Lang, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP US
2 dual enrollment classes
Major: Biomedical Sciences
Essay: I have to say my essay was probably the reason why I got in.

I didn’t have superb test scores, so my extracurriculars, leadership positions and GPA definitely saved me. I’m surprised I got in when other people who should have gotten in but didn’t. I wish you luck next year!

This is over a year old…and didnt you post the exact thing on another thread…?
