Hi! I am currently a junior and I am struggling to decide which SAT to take (current or new). I have just started to prep but I feel like taking the Jan. 23 SAT would be a waste of time because it is the last administration of the “current SAT.” From what I’ve researched, the new SAT is completely redesigned and is barely congruent to the old one in terms of skills tested. However, I also feel that waiting until March to take the “new” SAT would be waiting too long considering that I’m already a junior. Also, I have heard that the new SAT is going to be ridiculously hard compared to the current one. So, with all of this being said, is it more beneficial to take the current SAT. in Jan or wait for the new one in March and prepare for that only? I appreciate anyone’s feedback.
Try a practice test for both versions
Hi! I am a junior, and I would say definitely do the current SAT. If you are not happy with your results, do the new SAT. You would also have some more material for the new SAT released by then - unlike now. So hit two birds with a stone!
Taking the current one is a gamble, because if you’re not satisfied with your score, you have to study for a new test.
Taking the new one is also a gamble, because there’s less prep material available and there are a lot of unknowns.
At this point, I’d recommend the act, especially if math isn’t your thing, although I am taking the current one in January (I already did October though)
