Hey everyone!

I am currently a sophomore, but I am extremely interested in attending Vanderbilt. As this school year is currently drawing to a close, I was wondering what classes I should enroll in next year. These are the courses I am thinking about taking:

-AP Chemisty or AP Environmental Science
-AP English
-AP U.S. History
-Honors Spanish Four
-Honors PreCalculus

As someone who is interested in applying to Vanderbilt in the future, I was wondering what you all thought of this schedule. Would this seem at all impressive to the admissions office? If I can't make an A in all of these classes, would that hurt my chances of getting into Vanderbilt?

-Thanks for the help,
BaroqueBaller

Sure, it’s a good course setup for junior year. It’s really al relative to what’s offered in your highschool and what other students are taking at your HS. Will your counselor consider your schedule demanding? More demanding? Most demanding? Hopefully the latter.

You should take the most challenging course load available. Anything else may put you at a disadvantage relative to other applicants.

You don’t have to have straight As to get into Vanderbilt (although I’m sure many people do). So long as you make As and Bs, I think the rigor of your courseload is more important than making striaght As.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for the help. These are basically the most difficult classes that I can take next year, so I think that this schedule is going to be very demanding. With that current set up for my schedule, that leaves me with two study halls, one of which would be taken up by a lab hour for AP Chem. As an elective, I am thinking about doing an Independent Study in something. An independent study at my school means that I can study basically whatever I want (within reason) so long as i follow a few requirements, such as meeting with a counselor every week to make sure that I am actually doing some form of work. Do you all have any ideas on what a good Independent study subject could be? I am thinking that in college I would either major in Engineering or Pre-Med if that helps at all.

Thank you all for the help, it really means a lot!

Pre-med isn’t a major FYI, you’ll have to pick a major even if you want to be pre-med. Study whatever interests you.
