My son is planning to attend? Have any posters attended previous sessions?

I never went to Junior Day, but all of those prospective days (Decision Davidson, Discover Davidson, Junior Day, etc.) are all basically the same.

My guess is that the president and some administrators will speak, there will be walking tours of the campus, probably a Q&A panel for students and one for parents (usually they'll have one on the admissions process and one on financial aid), probably lunch in Baker or on Chambers lawn (usually wraps, sandwiches, chips, fruit, sodas, etc.) with a performance by the Delilahs or the Generals in the background, and at one point, they'll probably divide the kids up into small groups and send them to rooms in Chambers (the main academic building) to ask questions of current Davidson students, then they'll call it a day. There may also be a lecture session by professors and they could pick a subject of their choosing, but that might just be at Decision Dave.

D and I went to Junior Day last year, it was very informative, with tours and different choices for forums for both parents and students. D got a lot out of the student-athlete forum, mom get a lot of reassurance at the Financial Aid forum, and we both enjoyed the student/faculty forum (Dr. Alexander was awesome - wish I could take one of his classes!) It is highly recommended (hopefully you have the same great weather we had, we take a 70 degree day in February anytime!)

I'm attending as well. Should be good.

My friend went to it, applied ED, and is now a member of the Davidson Class of '13. So it is probably fair to say he found Junior Day helpful!

What should we wear to Junior day? Is it a casual thing?

I think it's probably a good idea to be sort of dressy-casual. Not jeans but not church clothes. Really, you'll get people in torn jeans and t-shirts, and others wearing designer...you'll see everything. Probably safe not to overdo it, but also not to dress like a slob.

To my visit / tour, I wore a skirt and a conservative top. To Decision Davidson, I wore jeans and a turtle-neck with a Davidson sweatshirt...it really doesn't matter that much :P

Thank you for you input :)

will individual departments be represented to provide information about majors offered?

I would think so, yes, that there's probably some sort of departmental fair. I'm pretty sure they at least do that at Discover Davidson, the fall program for seniors, and Decision Davidson the admitted students' program in mid-April.

Definately attend Jr. day if possible. They do an excellent job. Last year there was an opportunity to attend sessions related to the various depts as well as admission/ fin aid, and the usual. As a parent, I found it very informative. My son enjoyed it as well although he decided the school was too small for him.

I'm really excited for Junior Day! It's on my birthday, yay!

My daughter was invited to a number of junior days at different D1 schools as a possible recruit. Do you think it is imperative that a parent attend with her or do the schools realize that there are just so many trips parents can make between tournaments, etc… each year.

Though I would recommend that they do, parents don’t have to attend these sorts of programs, no – my mother didn’t come with me to Decision Davidson – but if you do, there will be programs geared toward the parents in sync with those geared toward the students.

Actually, it was probably good that my mother didn’t come with me to Decision Davidson (accepted students weekend), just because then I wasn’t tempted to stay with her off-campus and I was able to float around with the students and adjust to being at Davidson. I was able to make my own judgment without her chiming in…I love my mother, but the space was necessary for me to formulate my own opinions.
