I took the SAT for the 1st time this year and I got a 1510...
is that alright for the 1st try? i think I did pretty good?

How well you did is all relative. How high were you aiming for? If you only needed a 1500, it is good. However, to get into top schools and ivy league schools, you should try to bring that up at least into the 2000s range, if not higher.

You scored just around the national average, which, to be honest, isn't that good. If you took the test without prep or anything, it's not too bad, but you should definitely take the test again, preferably with preparation this time, to try to get a higher score. For a first try, it's not so bad. Good luck!

Agreed with coolguy.

It really depends on what colleges you're planning on applying to; Your score will be detrimental if you're applying to HYPSM, but it is a decent score if you're only looking at in-state universities. Different colleges, different standards- if your score meets/surpasses their standards, then you iiiiiiight.

I'm out.

the first time, i did it with NO prep and no knowledge about scoring or timing
and i got 1700.... and my score today is 2200
so i guess it depends

^^^^^^^^^^
Depends on what? Depends if he scores better than 97% of the population? You're no help.

^ I think his point is that if he studies properly, his score will go up. How is that no help?

It's totally alright as long as you tried your best :)

I suggest you read through all of "The Official SAT Study Guide" before you take it again though. I think you'll see a major increase in your score. Also, do the practice tests which are at the end of that guide; for many people, the toughest part of the SAT is getting used to the timing.

When I took my ACT without planning as a sophmore I got a 27, or roughly translated to a 1820. It really depends

is it 1500 out of 2400, bc then it is average, not great. but if its 1500 out of 1600, great job!

Agreed with j-hobbs, but SAT's the first time around especially with no prep or courses is not always too accurate. I got a 1610 the first time, then without changing a thing got an 1810. I just got accepted into my top choice school whose average is a 1990, so SAT's aren't really the biggest things in the world apparently.

my friend took the SAT's as a freshman at got in the 1500's. He's one of the smartest guys I know and as a junior he retook it and got a 2250. My advice to you is study a lot over the summer, go through the Collegeboard Blue Book practice tests, memorize vobulary, etc. You'll bring it up a couple hundred easily.

First of all, I am pretty sure the poster was a "her" because apparently she goes by the alias Basketball babe. I don't know about you but I definitely wouldn't call myself a "babe". Second, I think you need to read her post first, because you either misread it or you're just illiterate. She claims that she scored 1700 with NO prep, not WITH prep.

So.. like... I guess it depends.

I also agree with nooob and every other poster that denounced the accuracy of the PSAT/first SAT. I got a 1210 on my PSAT and about a thousand points higher on the SAT.
