Junior GPA Worries/Questions...

Oh hai,

Was just wondering. This quarter, my GPA's going to be pretty darn low compared to my usual stuff. I'm projecting around a 3.4/3.5 out of 4.33. Our school doesn't weight classes, so this is a B+ average. Last quarter was a 3.83. Sophomore and freshman year were 4.02.

My question is, will the kinds of colleges I want to apply to (e.g., Yale, Dartmouth, Amherst, Middlebury, Conn. College, William and Mary, etc.) see that because I am taking and persevering w/ hard classes (AP Chem, where I'm getting most likely a C+, B- if I ace the midterm, and Accel. Pre-calc, when I suck at math, but it's a pre-res for AP Chem), my GPA is not a reflection of what I am good at (languages, humanities)?

It's been my aspiration for a long time to get into a top college, and I can't help but worry my junior year is going to blow it for me.

First, if your high school doesn't weight classes, how are you getting above a 4.0?

Second, the college app process is far from an exact science. Your junior year might not "blow it" for you, but you may still not get into those top top schools. On the other hand, if you are able to pull it up in the coming semesters, then you may be accepted.

The problem with these top schools is that everyone wants to apply to them, if only to be able to say "I got in", so even something small can make a difference. I don't mean to burst your bubble or tell you you won't make it, cause you very well might. All I'm saying is that, realistically, just do the best you can and that is all anyone can ask for.

Good luck!
