Junior Grades!!

I'm a junior in high school right now, and i'm very nervous about my current grades. Previously i've been a straight A student, but lately i've been dealing with some pretty serious family issues and recently i've noticed that everything has taken a toll on my grades.(i knew it was bad, but not THIS bad type of situation) So I've basically gone from all A's to 2 B-'s and a C+ in this last semester, which i know isn't terrible, but I'm three fourths of the way through my junior year and I plan on applying to some pretty competitive schools in the fall, and i was wondering how bad this will look an my application, if admissions will understand my situation, is all hope lost, or can i still salvage my chances? Also has anyone ever been in a similar situation, and if so how did you deal with it?

Going from straight A’s to a C+ is pretty hard hit. If your overall gpa is pretty decent (3.7+ unweighted), you’ll still be competitive when you apply to top universities as long as you have AP, IB, or Honors courses. If your SAT’s are decent, I think your drop in grades won’t matter much. I would advice against mentioning your drop of grades in your college essay, let your counselor or teacher do that in their recommendations. Write a strong essay and with good extra-circulars, you could get into a good college as long as your grades rebound senior year. Good Luck :)

IF you write in your essay why your scores dropped than Colleges will understand. It should not affect you as much if you write your essay on it and explain why they happened and how that is not you.

Okay thank you soo much, that’s really reassuring

@corajohnson22 But make sure to explain that those grades are not the real you. A tragedy occurred which threw you off track
