junior grades

Alright, well my class rank is good: I'm 14/320 in my class. Im very good at standardized tests so i expect to score in the 2100-2250 range. My freshman year grades were all A's and 1 B. Sophomore year I had 2 B's (well, 1 was a B and the other B+). I have taken the most difficult schedule all 3 years. This year however, my grades have kind of gone down significantly, due to a mix of slacking and very difficult classes.
Jr grades~
Morality/Social justice: A+
H English: B+
H Precalc: B+
H Physics: B
APUSH: either A- or B+
AP French: B

mostly B's, obviously.

next year im planning on taking ReligionIV, AP Eng, H calc, AP Psych, AP Gov, and either h french 5 or environmental science. I shoudl be able to get mostly A-/A's, with prob just a B+ in government.

Also, I will President of Model UN, exec board for Amnesty International as well as Peer Leadership, and I also participate in community service (interact club) and NHS. I have had three article published in the newspaper on a teen page and I also I did an internship for a congressional campaign. I have a part-time job about 20hr/wk at Dunkins.

Im thinking of applying some of the following: NYU, UMichigan, Brandeis, Northeastern, BC, BU, Macalester, Vassar, Emory, American, UMass, UCLA.

Do these junior grades have a significantly detrimental impact onmy application. And how are my chances at the above schools?

No, I wouldn't say it will have a significant impact. There is more to admissions that just numbers, so if you have strong ECs (which it looks like you do), and a stellar essay, you can still get in. Just don't keep slacking off. :P

i know, i just feel like it looks bad having a majority of Bs junior year for the colleges I'm interested in. Uhgh, but hopefully great senior grades will help redeem me a little.

lol dont universities like the general upward curve?

I did horrible in fresh/sophomore year (80-100% is considered A value range, so i got an 82% in grade 9 year and 87% in grade 10)

but im doing extremely well in grade 11 (im not trying ot brag about myself or scores but u can see what happened to me) having a current average in semester 2 of 98%.

Thing is, it seems u took similar courses to me, and i have no idea what must of influenced urself into getting those type of grades, but colleges love to look at grade 11/10 and grade 12 if ur applying RD... they will also look at grade 9, but since those are all preliminary courses that arent really useful they will take further notice on 10,11,12 courses... im not saying they neglect grade 9 but i dont think they base a rejection/acceptance on it neither.

But, i dont think its gonna impact you man, you got grade ECs and universities do take into consideration RANK (if ur school does rank which it does so thats a big bonus). SO dont worry, pick up the slack from here on out, its a wake up call... u started out on the top fresh/soph year but then fell into the trap of not keepin urself at the top constant... Ur gonna do fine man dont worry to much.

Besides, if u arent applying EA/ED, u also have a chance to do amazing in grade 12 :D

yeah i know that an upward trend is ideal so thats why i was so worried. A general combination of working a lot on weekends, sucking at some of my classes/some being very hard to get A's in, and general slacking is what has put me in this position. I do plan to really pull through next year and do very well, so hopefully everything works out. thanks a lot for the input:)

well, yes, the grades are not that great, but test scores that are as high as you say or predict will show that you merely slack off during the school year and don't work to your full potential. Your extracurriculars, though, look very good. I think you have a very good chance of getting into most of these schools.

WAIT!!! i just noticed you carry a 20 hour week job.... responsibility shows character and initiative to challenge oneself... id say if u can find a way to show WHY u got those grades in grade 11 will make it a lil easier on the admissions on figuring out from a blank space "why are his grades bad in grade 11 but superb in all the other years?"

thats my 2 cents got any questions dont ever hesitate to ask

"Silence is stupidity in which it will lead you to nothing; Asking a question is curiosity in which it will show the initiative to find the answer"

a lil quote a made up just remember that... abuse ur right to use the free info on the web and communcations with admissions/the univeristies ur applying to

well thats good news i guess. i dont really want themt o think im an underachieving slacker, because i have tried pretty hard throughout high school and am definitely going to work my butt off in college. But if it helps me, i guess that is good. By the way, I hope to go to law school after college and i plan on majoring in political science and perhaps another major in college. If that makes any difference?
