Junior, help with College Selection!

Hi fellow CCers,

So as a junior I've visited a couple of colleges, most of which i really liked! But that basic trend I'm seeing from the universities that I've visited is that they all basically talk about the same things and about the same opportunities, so its getting really hard for me to narrow down my list of colleges. I know most of safeties and my targets, but my list of reaches just keeps building up... Can anyone suggest a few** reach** universities for me that fit my criteria for a college.

Criteria:
1. **Stimulating academic environment/B
2. Friendly, nice, and supportive environment, especially academically
3. Good research (molecular, biochemistry) opportunities
4. Good system for help with finding internships
5. Strong music program for flute (as in a great flute teacher/fellow in the school)
6. Nice social life (greek or just in general parties, etc)
7. Better if the school is near the east coast

My own stats:
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.6 W (i have great upward trend, because I took more and more challenging classes as i moved up in grade (9th:4.3, 10th:4.6, 11th:4.8))
SAT: 2340 (CR:800 M:780 W:760)
SAT2: Math 2 800, Chemistry 800, Biology 800, Physics 780, USH 740
Major Awards: Intel finalist in my state fair
Basic Awards: Bunch of awards at regional level
Summer:
9th: took honors chem
10th: took honors physics
attended a prestigious flute institute/master class session
Volunteered for over a 100 hours
Took SAT classes (this probs won't go on my college resume... but just for everyone else's reference)
11th:
Going away to a research camp for 3 weeks
Going to state Gov School for 3 weeks
Drum Major camp for 4 days
Volunteering or getting a job after all that!
Clubs too many to list all but major ones are:
Marching Band (Drum Major)
Acadeca (President)
Science Bowl (Captain)
Math league (captain)

It is hard to recommend without knowing what size you prefer and what your cost limitations are. Also, what are your targets and safeties? If we know what you like for those (and even why you like them), that will help with reach recommendations.

Size:
I don’t really care, but would prefer a larger school, with more diversity! (I would like a school with more international students if possible)

Tuition:
Not really an issue for me, but it would be nice if they offered merit scholarships, if not though its fine. My parents (we’re asian) have been saving money since basically when I was 5.

Safeties:
Drew University/U
Rutgers /U
(both are state schools if you haven’t heard of them)

Targets:
U rochester/U
Amhearst/U

Georgetown/U

Wellesley. (but I don’t know if you’d be okay with an all-women’s?)
Wash U in St. Louis.
Johns Hopkins.
Brandeis.

By the way, your safeties are very, very safe for you. I think it would be wise if you picked a few schools in the middle; the other schools you listed are high-match. Get a few low-match/safeties that aren’t quite as safe.

Reaches:
Yale
Harvard
MIT

Most of these schools meet all of your criteria but 1 (which differs by school), it would seem.

Rice
JHU
Oberlin
URochester
GA Tech
Dartmouth
