GPA weighted- 3.85

GPA unweighted- 3.7 (B+/A-)

State- CT

Honors- about 3 per year. my junior year however, im taking 3 APs (US History, English, and Government and Politics) as well as two honors

SAT- dont know yet. havent taken but my guidence counselor tells me based on my PSAT scores, she expects me to get around 1150 without prep classes. i am taking prep classes in march-may and am assuming to raise to over 1200 at least.

Major Interest- Law

ive maintained all this as well as a job (12-16 hours a week) for two years

i realize this is all hypothetical and it may be difficult to gauge whether or not someone like me would get accepted. im just really hoping to get in. any time spent helping me is greatly appreciated.

also, how effective are prep classes?
and for law, what kinds of teachers should i ask to write my rec? im submitting two.

again, thanks.

Dylan, are ur PSAT’s an 1150 without writing cuz if so then thats a great score but if thats combined then u’ll need to work hard and bring up ur score. ur gpa looks really good but according to most gpa scales a 90 is a 3.5 and the fact that u’ve taken AP classes will help too i hope u and mikala both get in!!!

the 1150 was just a guess from a guidence counselor actually.
im really assuming it’s going to go up. plus im a pretty good writer so we’ll see.
and… really? a 90 is 3.5 dang. but ill expecting it to go up maybe a point or two so idk. thanks tho!

Chances are impossible without actual SAT scores.

yeah i figured. ill get back to ya around may ;/ what should i shoot for?

2400 will be good :)

HAHAHA yeah right.

Rule of thumb is over 1200 on the SAT gets in–my d was accepted this year. She had 4.1 gpa and 1350 sat-- did not make the honors program but did get a 15k scholarship over 4 years. She is not attending-- my husband is trying to stop crying.

Good luck- do the best you can in school and things will work out. Public Universities are getting incredibly competitive with the financial situation here.

^ This is not true anymore (in terms of SAT “cutoff”). It has been risen by at least 50 points.

yeah this year there were kids with 1350’s and 3.5 GPAs rejected (my dad works at Uconn and he was told this by his friends in admission) I got in but did not get into the honors program :(

It really depends on the school. My son got in with a 3.2 weighted (1450/2060 SAT). It seems like you can get a lower GPA at our high school to go anywhere because of the school’s rigor. (I just noticed that our average SAT scores are about 600 per section, and a school in a more urban area about a half hour away has average SAT scores in the 400s!)
