hello all, im not looking to get into ivy league or uc's because my grades are definitely not up to par, but i would like to know my chances at state schools. im having trouble calulating my CSU gpa. i dont understand how they reward the extra points concerning honors and ap classes. here are my stats: (a-g courses only, correct?)

Sophomore:
AP European Civilization 1: B
Chemistry 1: B
Honors Algebra 3: B
Spanish 5: B

AP European Civilization: B
Chemistry 2: B
Honors Algebra 4: B
Spanish 6: A
High School English 3: A

High School English 4: A
Choir: A
Ceramics: B (i know)

Junior:
AP Art History 1: A
Honors Pre-Calculus 1: A
AP Physics B 1: B
Advanced Choir: A
American Literature 1: A

AP Art History 2: B
Honors Pre-Calculus 2: B
AP Physics B 2: B
Advanced Choir: A
US History 1: B

i still have one trimester to go and expect to maintain these types of grades. i took the March SAT but did poorly, 1500(520 CR, 530 math, 450 W) so i am most definitely retaking and i plan on taking the ACT.

here are my choices of schools in order:
1. San Diego State
2. Cal Poly SLO
3. Cal Poly Pomona
4. San Jose State
5. San Francisco State

CSU GPA is computed on a 4.0 scale, with AP classes being worth a slightly inflated grade (an A is worth 5 points, B = 4, C = 3, and then D = 1 and F is no credits). Depending on where you go to school, honors classes may be worth more, or they may just give you an edge in course rigor.

Your grades are good enough to get you into most of those schools (perhaps not SLO). With a 1750 or better, you’ll get into SDSU, SJSU, and SFSU. Good luck!

Chance me back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118399-chance-theatre-acting-inclined-junior-ill-chance-you-back.html

You can get into the lower tier UCs, and maybe even a mid tier.

the only extra-curricular i have is choir

would someone be willing to actually calculate my CSU gpa? im curious to see what it is because i am unsure if i am eligible for the 8 extra points

I think your CSU GPA is 3.64.

Here’s a link to a CSU GPA Calculator

thanks, but dont my honors courses count as extra points as well?

can someone please calculate my gpa? idk if my honors courses count as extra points. and i plan on majoring in nursing, which schools are the hardest to get into for nursing?

I don’t think honors classes are extra-- at least, not in the state of California. It could vary by district or county, though…

damn, i was hoping for my honors classes to give me a boost

just finished my junior year and grades 10-11 CSU GPA = 3.69 or 3.73 depending on if i am allowed to get another extra point for honor courses. I also re took the SAT this past weekend and feels like i did better, but not by that much . . .

Somewhere on the UC web site you can navigate to Pathways or Doorways; I forgot the exact name. You feed in your high school name, then the academic year in question. It will tell you which classes have been approved for the extra point and which ones are eligible for a-g, etc. I have found that honors classes may not necessarily be awarded the honors point every year. I don’t know if CSU caps bonus points the way UC does. CSU Mentor may tell you.

If you are local to a particular CSU, you get a boost. This means that if you are outside SDSU’s area, it is almost impossible to be admitted. It is almost as bad with Long Beach. Luckily, the area around SLO is fairly sparsely populated.

really? isn’t that kind of unfair though if some high schools reward honor classes and others don’t? and I live in San Diego but not in their “Local Admission” area so I know it’s going o be tough for me to get in

now that junior year is over here is my update. my CSU GPA is 3.73, and i retook the SAT but only got a 1070/1600, but superscored i have a 1120/1600. I am most likely going to major in nursing because San Diego State is my top choice. I live in San Diego but not in their local admission area
