Junior in need of help!

I'm new to college confidential, yet I've been anticipating college since I could crawl.(Ha) I'm a current Junior at a large public highschool, and have vowed to never attend an in-state university. Here is where I need some help...choosing the right school.

GPA: 3.93 Unweighted, 4.8 weighted

Rank: As of Soph year, 39 out of 500. Will most likely go up with addition of 1st semester grades.

SAT/PSAT: Will take old SAT next week for practice, anticipating around 1350(judging by Sophmore PSAT of 1290). New SAT in March(is 2100 a good goal?)

Classes: AP World last year (5)
(currently) AP English, AP US, AP Psych, and AP Bio
(senior year) AP French, AP English Lit, AP Eco/Government, AP Art History, and AP AB Calc.
All other classes are Honors execpt for the occasional required PE's.

EC's: 3 Years of Varsity Swimming. (hopefully captain nexy year!!)
1 year of varsity track, crew, and cross country
Clubs( French, Service, SADD)
Honor( NHS, French honor, Social Studies Honor, I Dare you, Beta, Mu alpha theta)
Summer job as Lifeguard
Community Service at local Ronald McDonald house...definatly need more.

Dream Schools:
Duke (Dad, 3 aunts, 1 uncle, Grandfather all Alumni)
UNC
UVA
Emory
Vandy
Wake Forest

Thanks for reading!

I see you are sticking to a Southern motif. To not forget Rice, UT-Austin and Davidson...and if the Southwest does not turn you off, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Stanford, UCLA and UC Berkeley.

You have a great list of schools just the same. Your GPA and rank are fine. However, you will need a little more than a 1350 if you want a good chance at Duke. A 2100 on the new SAT would be fine. Breaking the 2200 would be better.

Surely your legacy status will help, but an SAT score over 1400 for Duke applicants is pretty standard these days.

At the end of the day however, it is your essays that are going to make the difference.

Good luck.
