This is a question about the Junior Miss scholarships. My dad saw it in some scholarship book and wants me to do it because they offer A LOT of money, esp if you can get to the national level. The problem is, I'm definitely not a pageant kind of girl. I disagree with any competition that degrades young women. My dad says its not a pageant (ie they don't have a swimsuit competition, and a big chunk of the judging criteria is scholastic achievement and interview), but I'm not convinced. Has anyone ever participated in Junior Miss? Please tell me if I can try to win some money for college in this competition without compromising my morals.

i participated in junior miss. your dad is right; it's not like a pageant and in no way would you have to compromise your morals. basically, there are 5 parts to the junior miss if I remember right. 1) interview 2) academic achievement 3) open question 4) talent 5) dance/exercise routine

it was really a great experience for me, even though I didn't win anything. i am still friends with some of the girls. and, in my opinion, it looks great on your resume because on a lot of my scholarship interviews, i was asked about the junior miss comp. Junior Miss is really a scholarship pageant; it's your time to show what you do best and who you are as a person. It does not degrade women whatsoever. I think it's Quite the opposite, as it celebrates who we are and our diversity. Hope it helps!

If you are so worried about involving yourself in something that denigrates women, then why would you even consider entering a contest that only women are allowed into? As a girl, are you incapable of winning a contest in which boys are able to compete? Chattybanana, you seem to have an expectedly limited comprehension of "equality." The entire point behind feminism is that women should be treated exactly the SAME as men, that is, no special treatment or inferior treatment. Participating in a girls-only competition, by nature, implies that you do not possess worthy unisexual skills and are, thus, unequal to men.

Heck, use some common-sense. Why do you think pageants like that exist? It's so that boys can be taken out of the picture to ensure that a girl wins the money. Let me spell it out for you: T-H-E-Y D-O N-O-T T-H-I-N-K A G-I-R-L W-O-U-L-D W-I-N I-F B-O-Y-S C-O-U-L-D C-O-M-P-E-T-E. If treating women like they cannot compete with the opposite gender doesn't degrade women, then I don't know what does.
