Throughout my entire life, I sucked at grammar and reading. I was that kid that excelled in Math, History, and Science but always failed in English. I don't know if it's b/c I'm Asian or something.... but its sort of ****ing me off. I'm decent at writing an essay, but I really don't understand the concepts of grammar...

I'm taking an AP Lang Class to some what prepare for it, but I want to know if you guys have specific tips to raise my score. I know that I can do it, but I just need some guidance to get me motivated.

I know that the blue book is like the best prep book to study... but... even after I finished it... my SAT CR and SAT Writing scores didn't increase by much.... (I haven't finished all the practice tests though)

Oh yea I took a SAT for practice last year with out studying and got a 1790
Math 720
Cr 570
writing 500
Essay 8 (lolz)

Yea.. I think my goal is to get around a 2100 the next time I take it (maybe next Spring?)
So PLzz helpp mee my mom cried when she saw these scores lol..

The blue book is only good for PRACTICE TESTS. So don’t read/do the exercises in the beginning of the book. There are guides posted in this forum on how to do well on the CR and WR section.

My personal advice is to get a PR book or any grammar book to learn grammar. Then take lots of practice tests. I studied WR by doing Barron’s verbal exercise book. After that I do blue book’s practice tests. Through excessive practice, you’ll be able to see the “pattern” of the way these tests are like, and be able to know what’s expected. Additionally, review your mistakes/wrong answers. Being able to correct one or two mistakes that you always make can boost your score significantly. As for CR, I try not to skim so I can know the passages well. Knowing them well can prevent me from going back to the passages a lot. However, the time I use to get to know the passages well is made up by the lack of time I spend on the vocab section.

@gadgor Yeah I’m pretty much procrastinating… thats why I have a B in AP Calc BC facepalm

@crazy bandit I have both volumes of Direct Hits and I find it somewhat helpful.
I’ve also heard reading the New York Times or any piece of literature with a more sophisticated style of writing can raise CR, but what do you think?

@ Oh I see… cause the study guide part was really general. Thanks for the tip!
Also If I do finish All the practice tests in it (which I most likely will because my friend and I are planning to take practice tests once a week), are there any good sites for me to check that have good practice tests? Or should I just buy like a Princeton Review for the Tests?
