Junior Parents Weekend - 2011

Can any parents (or students) that have attended previously let me know what the typical dress is for the Friday Gala and President's Dinner - casual (i.e. jeans), more formal or across the board?

Thank you!

Last year they had photos of each night posted on the JPW website so one could get an idea of the dress. Don’t know if they do this year or not.

Definitely dressy. I don’t do these types of things often, so I followed the picture’s lead and wore a long dress. Although there were others in long dresses on Friday night, probably 80% had on short cocktail type dresses. Some people in fur jackets, etc. The Joyce is beautifully decorated for the Gala. It’s pretty nice :)

Instead of the President’s dinner, a group of my S/his roommates and girls from one particular dorm reserved the top floor of a local restaurant and ate there, so I can’t speak about the Pres. Dinner attire. Again, I assume dressy casual/perhaps a tad toward the dressier side of that.

Sunday brunch was also superb. Dressy church type clothes. The highlight last year was hearing Fr. Hesburgh speak. Coach Kelly was also great.

I don’t think I saw a pair of jeans at any of these, although there were definitely some at the Sat. day presentations.

Have a great time!! You are going to have incredible weather for S Bend for this time of year.

Thank you so much! I could not find any pictures or descriptions on the JPW site so I very much appreciate your response. And, you’re right re the weather - it should be beautiful!

I e-mailed the committee. The attire the suggested was exactly what Sryrstress stated. They indicated that Friday night was the dressiest. Cocktail attire. Dresses or nice pants suit Saturday, business casual Sunday brunch.

This was her exact response:

The Opening Gala is the most formal event of the weekend and cocktail attire is appropriate. The President’s dinner is slightly less formal. Normally pant suits or dresses for women and suits for men are recommended. The dinner will follow immediately after mass, so clothes typically appropriate for mass work for dinner. And the Closing Brunch on Sunday is business casual and the least formal of the four major events. For the collegiate workshops and hall luncheons, everyday, casual clothes are perfectly fine. There is not an expected dress code for these events.

Thank you! Have a wonderful time this weekend.

In case the link doesn’t work, Google “JPW 2010”. The 3rd hit says “JPW 2010 - what should I wear”. Then there are pictures for each day.

Looking at them again, the pictures are pretty accurate. I think all the men and boys I saw Friday night had suits and ties on. Make sure you get your pictures taken at the Gala. They have vendor representatives in several locations and they email the proofs back to you very quickly.
