Junior Schedule

Even though I'm applying to the North Carolina School of Math and Science and hope I won't have to deal with this next year, I'm still obsessing over my schedule. I want it to be rigorous but not too much that I virtually kill myself. Here's what I'm thinking about taking:

AP Physics C- should I take B or C?
AP U.S History
AP Calc BC- should I take AB?
AP English 11
Orchestra
Japanese I

As a requirement we have to take an environmental science ( which is so dumb) but the AP environmental course at my school is a complete joke and we learn about rocks for half the year ....(which I HATE earth science) so I don't know if I should take AP Physics junior or senior year.
Also Is AP Physics looked upon as more rigorous than AP Bio?

nobody has anything to say? I really need input

Yeah I’m in NC too and I hate the stupid enviro thing…means I have to take APES as a senior which is a joke class. Good luck re NCSSM by the way. I applied last year but then decided against it.

Seeing as you’re applying to NCSSM I’m going to assume you’re a math/sci guy. So take Physics C and BC Calc as a junior. You can then take Stat and APES as a senior, or go find some college math classes to take. Slightly easier classes senior year will make it much less stressful because you’ll have college apps to do in the fall.

Also, why are you taking Japanese I? Colleges like to see continuity in a language.

I’ve never had a foreign language before so I wanted to learn a language that was different plus I have Rosetta Stone in Japanese so I’m hoping that will help too.

So you didn’t take any languages freshman and sophomore years? That’s weird, most schools require that.

Yeah Rosetta Stone is great. Trust me learning a language will pay off in the long run.

I’m applying to NCSSM, did you ever figure your CD out? I assume you know when your D-day is.

AP Physics B sucks, take AP Physics C
AP Calculus AB sucks, take AP Calculus BC

If I don’t get in I’ll be taking AP Environmental Science online to meet the graduation requirement. Oh, and you may get into NCSSM online if you don’t get into NCSSM residential.

This would be my schedule next year most likely when/if I get rejected from NCSSM:

Summer: Civics and Economics Honors, General Biology I (1st half of college AP Bio)

Junior year

Calculus III
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations
AP United States History
AP Environmental Science
AP English III
AP Chemistry
General Biology II or 2nd semester of AP Biology

Yep already had my D-Day (was the first one) but i think my CD is 13.
Both of my high schools only require 2 years of foreign lang and I couldn’t take it freshman year due to the gym/health requirement and this year I didn’t take it because I picked orchestra instead-we only have 6 periods and AP chem ate up 2 periods…:(.

Here, people have to be forced to take Physics C. I was planning to until I found out I sucked at calculus and one of my friends told me it was suicide. But if people seem to do well in it at your school, go ahead. You don’t really know how you’ll do until you get in there.
Calc BC isn’t too much harder than AB.

I think your schedule sounds fine. Save APES for senior year, since it’s really easy.

^ It seems like at my school AP Physics is like the lost AP. i haven’t met anyone who has taken it or even knows about it. But I still wanna take it

Okay I don’t want to intercept the thread and start ranting but our school has such ridiculous requirements and a lack of APs that most of our schedules look like pure and utter BS! For example, there are only 2 APs that juniors are allowed to take: AP history and AP Biology. Everything else is a regular class BUT juniors need to take 8 periods a day which makes our schedule look like: English, Math, Science, History, Stupid Elective #1, Stupid Elective #2, Stupid Elective #3 and Lunch. And these electives are crap like Media Studies and Art. Also, our school has such a lack of classes that kids are sometimes forced to take TWO media studies classes with different codes but that are essentially the same class. It just makes me so ****ed that last year I took a Sci research class and this year they tried to give me the class again and I had to speak to five different people including the principal to get them to take me out of the class. Finally, they put me in Teacher’s Assistant so that I assist one of the Science teachers with her classes.

Oh and also, I think I read somewhere (probably on here?) that AP Biology is one of the hardest APs… I personally think it’s an alright class once you get the huge amount of reading done.

^ Wow I feel sorry for u Rissa i would hate having to do that. Thats kinda how I feel about AP Env. because it’s so useless

you’re in CD 13?
what high school are you going to?
(primarily saying this because Japanese isn’t that common of a language to be offered).

Western Guilford. but I would have to go to High Point Central in order to take it. The county has a policy that if a course isn’t offered at your school, you can be driven there and take it so I hope this applies to me and I’ll be able to take japanese
