Junior scheduling?

Hi all! I’m sketching out my junior schedule. So far, I think I’m taking:

  • American Literature
  • Honors US History
  • Honors Calculus BC
  • Honors Environmental Science/Honors Data Analysis and Visualization
  • Honors Game Theory/Data Science/Honors Machine Learning OR Honors Robotics Fabrication and Design/Honors Competition Robotics/Honors Autonomous Robotics
  • Introductory French.

Thoughts on my schedule? What are other juniors taking?

English, History, Math, Science, Language, Elective(s) is a fairly standard course lineup, so it’s a matter of which ones/how many.

What are your goals after high school?

If you’re intending to continue on to college, especially in a STEM-related field, it’s typically recommended to hit all three major sciences (Chem, bio, physics) at a minimum, and ideally one at an AP level if you are pursuing top colleges. You have ES/something else - does that mean it’s a half year class?

Is this your first year of a foreign language? If so, it is what it is, but more selective colleges would prefer at least three years of a language. If you’ve taken a previous language and are switching, two years of two languages aren’t looked upon as well as four years of a single language.

@RichInPitt My goals are to study CS (preferably specializing in the fields of AI/machine learning)

I’ve knocked out bio, chem, and physics at a high school level already, so the rest of HS is left for me to sort of take whatever sciences I want. I’m torn between ES (a 2-term course) + Data Analysis (1-term) or Marine Sci + Electronics + Data Analysis (all 1-termers). I was told Electronics may not run, but I’d probably do this science lineup if it does. And, for the whole AP thing, my school doesn’t actually offer APs. We can still take the exams (and we are highly encouraged to do so) and the SAT subject tests but I’ll have no AP coursework on my transcript.

I’ve already taken 3 years of high school Spanish but was feeling very burnt out on language so decided to take a year break. After a year of break, it’s a bit difficult to jump back into Spanish, so I’ve decided to just start anew.

Thanks for commenting!

If your school doesn’t offer AP classes, you will not be disadvantaged by not having them on the transcript. AP classes and exams are best for awarding college credit anyways.

What are your senior math plans? Are you going to take Calc III, DiffyQ, or Linear Alg?

Also, it says Introductory French. Did you already reah Level 3/4 in a language?

@h8annah Good to hear! I plan on taking every AP exam I’m qualified for. So far I’ve taken Psych (5) and I’m taking CSA this year. Next year I’m going to take the exams for APUSH, AP Lit (or Lang? depends on what my teacher would recommend), APES, and Calc BC. My senior year I plan on taking Linear Algebra (1 term) and Multivariable Calculus (2 terms) along with maybe the Modern Math Seminar my school offers.

Also I have taken up to Spanish 3!

If possible, I would opt to take Spanish 4 instead of Introductory French! You technically don’t need more than 3 levels at most colleges, but many students will reach Level 4. If it’s not available, however, that’s perfectly fine, and I like how you picked an additional language (I was in that situation).

I’m happy to hear you’re planning on taking AP Exams and hopefully you do well on the rest and get credit! And great to see that you will be continuing with advanced math!

That’s a fine schedule but your French class would be considered an academic class if you follow up with French 2, whereas if you only take the very first basics it’d only count as an elective when rigor is evaluated.
Everything else is good’

@h8annah Thanks so much! After a year break from Spanish, I don’t trust myself jumping back in. Besides, French seems really cool! Thanks so much for the feedback. Have a great night!

@MYOS1634 I do plan on taking Honors French 2 (providing I do well in French 1) my senior year! Thanks so much!
