Hey guys, on my application for transfer to UCI, I had stated that I am a senior level transfer because my units spilled a little over the maximum junior level transfer. However, I am hearing that it doesn’t matter how many units you take at a community college and that you would always be considered a junior level transfer due to a minimum number of units a UC would take? Is this true? Because I am honestly stressing out over it! Does anyone know if this would affect my application and to what extent? It seems that I cannot change it.
Based on this http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/check-majors/by-applicant-level/senior/index.html
It sounds like they flat out don’t take senior applicants for most majors. You should probably double check this and get it fixed asap
Yeah…you’re supposed to apply as a junior level applicant. YOU SHOULD CONTACT THEM ASAP.
@jeetusSwo @UCtransfer951 Okay, thank you so much!! I emailed UCI’s office of admissions yesterday night but I don’t know how long it’ll take for them to respond. Do you guys think they will maybe overlook it because you can’t transfer as a senior from a CC anyway? Praying for the best.
@pgn1005 i made the same mistake during my application did you figure it out?
@frazi78 I haven’t gotten a response from UCI’s office of admissions yet because they’re not opened until Monday! But I will call them ASAP. Did you get accepted nonetheless or did any problems occur for you?? How did you fix it? I’m so desperate for answers.
I wouldn’t bet on it. They should notice all your units are from a CC, but someone might just look at the box that says “senior transfer” and not look farther.
I’m with everyone else; don’t count on them doing it right, get in touch with them first thing Monday.
@pgn1005 im freaking out as well i emailed all of the uc’s i applied to and will try calling them all on monday as well see what they say.
i am sure people have made such mistakes before and hopefully they will look a bit further than just that its scary because none of the schools accept senior transfers.
@mikemac I did update my TAU again last night in the description box that is meant for any other academic record information but I have no idea if they are even going to look at that past the deadline for January 31st. Thank you for the advice though! At this point, I’m just trying to do everything I can.
Playing devil’s advocate here: I think the issue with accepting you as a senior transfer would basically negate a UCI education in that you “completed” the majority of your education at another non-UC facility.
I don’t know how an upper level major is possible at a CCC unless the CCC has permission from the State of California to grant Bachelor’s degrees. Coursework at the CC’s provide PREPARATION coursework for the major course of study.
If you are granted a diploma from a UC or any other university, they have to guarantee to future employers/schools that you have met the minimum requirements for graduation in preparation for a career. UC’s have to present you as being prepared to enter the workforce or graduate school with UC level expectations.
sucks that its a weekend im anxious
@“aunt bea” never in the application it said not to enter a transfer student i was above 70 units so i assumed ill be transferring as a senior student
@aunt bea I haven’t completed major coursework for my major yet, only the pre requisites and some other classes because I switched majors at CC and that’s why my units are a little over junior level. However, I heard that since CCs don’t have major courses, you would always transfer as a junior level no matter your unit count, hence the confusion.
@frazi78. Pleading ignorance of the admissions requirements is not going to fly with the adcoms, nor is it an excuse.

The UC application is not going to repost all of their admissions requirements that have been posted on the Admissions website. It is up to the student to become familiar with the rules in conjunction with CC advisor’s recommendations and the ASSIST program. In other words, it’s there.
Admissions applications are done online, so the information is there with another click of your mouse.
If all of your units are lower division (including those from community colleges), they should be capped at 70 semester units / 105 quarter units, which means that you cannot be a senior level transfer.

@pgn1005 did you hear back
i talked to admission they say they will look at your overall application to determine the decision. phew!
@frazi78 Yes! I called the admissions office yesterday morning as well and they responded similarly! Rather, we will transfer as junior-senior so if you chose the option that you’re transferring as senior-level, it is not entirely wrong. That was such a relief.
