oh gosh, we all are so dead......

this sucks.
Is anyone out there considering NOT applying to great schools after looking at this year's dreadful acceptance rates?

(finishing circumlocution2's thought)
...and knowing that next year's acceptance rates will be EVEN LOWER.

great. just fantastic. and cuz everybody's going to freak out and apply to MORE schools, rates will be ever lower as well!!! aagh. oh well. at least i'm guaranteed to UC Irvine.

and do UCs calculate -/+ s into GPA ?? our school uses those but we don't caluclate them into unweighted/weighted GPA at all.

this is ridiculous. i vote for getting rid of AA and giving spots to people who deserve it and not to people because of ethnicity. but that's just me.
by this i don't mean the low income minority student, but rather the wealthy Hispanic student who lives in an affluent neighborhood, yet still gets in due to ethnicity. (i'm a low-income asian student myself )

3.62 (will go up to mid 3.6 after this year) weighted gpa (4.0 = a, 3.5 = b+. 3.0 = b, +.5 for each ap, nothing for honors... 94-100 a, 90-93 b+, 84-89 b, etc)
2320 (740cr, 780 m, 800w)
This year :
Ap Us History
English 11
Ap Chemistry
Physics
Spanish 4
Ap Calculus Bc
Economics

Next:
Geosystems
CAD tech lab
Ap Government
Ap Language
Ap Stat
Multivariable Calculus / Techniques
History of Science

Planning on applying to:
UVA, William & Mary, University of Michigan, UCLA, University of Wisconsin, Boston College, Virginia Tech

I really hope I can do better than my ultra-safety.

This year: AP US, AP English Lang, AP Chem, honors pre-calc, orchestra, spanish 3

Next year: AP US Gov, AP Comparative Gov, AP Econ(macro), AP English Lit, AP Spanish, AP Calculus AB, Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra(hopefully)

Planning on Applying to: Bowdoin, Pomona, Carleton, University of Rochester, Georgetown, Tufts, University of Oregon, University of Washington, George Washington
and just for the hell of it.....Harvard.....why not??
haha

UCs don't factor in +/-s. So A+ or A- is both equivalent to an A (5 points in UC approved honors, 4 points in regular)

I can calculate UC GPAs (HS, UW, and Weighted) if anyone wants to know theirs, just post your 10th and 11th courses and your grades in them.

And jcrew, nice SAT score! I am hoping I can get mine to break 2300 before June.

Yeah I HATE AA!! (Korean Male myself bleh..) But I am sure many colleges will continue to practice AA. :(

^ ah thanks for the clarification. What about Ivies ??

I think AA is ridiculous. It benefits middle class African-American / Hispanic families whose kids are ALREADY having an edge over low-income families, yet they have lower standards to get in while the Asian kid who comes from a poor immigrant family has a higher standard because he/she's Asian!! that's ^&^%. I know a girl whose mixed (half Asian/Hispanic) and while she does study her butt off, she keeps on saying that putting down Hispanic on her application will get her into college. *es me off because she doesnt' actually NEED any of the assitance top tier colleges can give to low-income families, she looks white and identifies as white, she comes from a wealthy familiy, yet because of AA she has a significant advantage!!

Yeah there are too many flaws in AA policy (like the situation you described athenegoddess), but as long as there are low income URM students out there, they won't get rid of AA.

I think ivies just use your high school gpa (whatever gpa your school sends to the schools). Don't quote me on this though, I am not 100% sure.

Junior year sucks. I have senioritis already!

I'm taking Honors English, Algebra 2, Honors US History, Honors Physics, gym, and theater.

Next year, I'm signed up for: AP Lit, AP Stats, AP Bio, Honors Government/Econ, gym, health.
