I just finished my freshman year as an engineering major at Cornell University, and I am considering applying to Berkeley as a junior transfer. I was admitted to UCB last spring as a freshman (mechanical engineering) but I live out of state and the financial aid at Cornell was incredible whereas that at Berkeley was.. nonexistent.

I really didn't enjoy Cornell, I mean, it's livable and all, but I'm just not where I want to be. I tried to cram in a bunch of classes to 'get them over with' which obviously backfired, and I have a 3.00 flat, much thanks to liberal arts and the writing requirement, admittedly.

I don't know if SAT scores still matter much as a junior transfer, but I was 790 math, 770 writing, 760 critical reading. HS gpa was ~3.88 unweighted, something ridiculous like 4.65 weighted (I was in an IB program)

College GPA 3.00, I'm in the Engineers for a Sustainable World Club and part of a couple of mentoring engineering programs. I went to a leadership conference weeklong trip for engineers at the beginning of the summer.

Do I have a good chance as a transfer or did I miss my shot at Berkeley? I understand the personal statement is particularly important for transfers? What should be emphasized in it?

Thanks. Geez, I don't even know if I have the money to pay for 2 years at Berkeley but I went for the money last spring and I'm regretting it. :(. Does the fact that I was admitted last spring help me.. hurt me? San Fransisco is beautiful... haha
