Prospective members of the Class of 2012:

I just wanted to let you guys know that I'll be one of four students on the "Lafayette College Information Panel" from 9:00am -10:00am this upcoming Saturday. That's right..."candyman" in the flesh!

I'll be stationed in the Kirby Hall of Civil Rights as an "Admissions Ambassador" from 10:15am -11:30am. You could always drop by and say hi.

I will also be joining both lunch sessions from 11:45am - 1:30pm in the Kirby Sports Center.

I'm interested in knowing how many CCers will be attending Junior Visiting Day this Saturday...drop a line in this thread if you plan on stopping by.

I will be visiting on Junior Visit Day tomorrow for the second time with my son.
Lafayette seems to be his first choice. His major is mathematics and he has already sat in on a class. There was limited parking when we visited last time.
Is there going to be additional parking for the open house? How many are expected to attend? Can't wait to try the food and see the wonderful new Rec Center.

2moretogo,

Although I am not exactly sure of the parking plans for the day, I do know that every available space will be taken advantage of. In addition to the parking on the deck behind Markle Hall, there may also be parking on the Sullivan Lane Deck and March Field on the western end of campus. Do not worry...there will be a space for you and your son!

We expect over a thousand visitors to attend JVD. It will be CRAZY! We even had to divide lunch into two sessions to accommodate everyone. Even though it will be busy, it always turns out to be a very informative and productive day for visitors.

Yes, Fisher Field is an amazing complement to our state-of-the-art sports center. Be sure to check out the athletic facilities at some point during the day.

Hey, maybe we'll run into each other after the information panel ;-)

All the best,

Thank you for the quick reply. I plan on arriving early. Are the dining halls also open to visitors to purchase food? If so, which would you recommend?

2moretogo,

I'd recommend getting a bite to eat in the Food Court on the 1st floor of the Farinon College Center. The grill station makes meat/egg/cheese breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, french toast, omelettes with any filling, hash browns, etc. You can, of course, pay with cash.

When you enter Farinon, head toward the staircase and hang a right. The Food Court will be straight ahead. Breakfast is served from 7:00am - 10:30am. I'll be in there myself to grab a quick meal before heading off to the information panel in the Williams Center for the Arts at 9:00am.

JVD Visitors:

Well, Junior Visiting Day has officially come to a close. We were fortunate that the weather decided to cooperate. From the looks of things, I think the program was a great success!

I hope those that made it to campus left with a good impression of the college. If anyone cares to share their experiences/thoughts, I'd be eager to hear them.

The JVD was great! It was very well organized by splitting up the groups in two.
We got to see things we didn't have a chance to see the first trip, such as the Sports Center, Economics building, and the Book Store. Admissions staff was very helpful in answering all our questions. The community was very active on campus by lunchtime, with many students participating in a Youth Empowerment Day. Our first trip was a rainy day which made it more difficult to judge.
The beginning information session was informative, and the staff was very welcoming. The panel of students, including you, made a nice mix of responses.
Sorry we didn't get to meet you personally, but after the information session we spoke to Marcela about my son's course of study in actuarial science.
We couldn't find you at the lunch, although the food was delightful :).
My son is deciding on when to return for a 3rd visit for an interview.
Any suggestions?

2moretogo,

I'm glad you enjoyed the day! It was fun serving as a panelist during the information session...too bad we didn't run into each other afterwards.

As for your question regarding an interview, find the time that works best into your schedule and have the interview then. My only real suggestion would be to try scheduling the interview when classes are back in session so that you can get another sense of daily life on campus.

Interviews will run from May 1st through December 28th, and they require two weeks notice. When you decide on a day, just call up the Admissions Office at (610) 330-5100 and choose a time slot (Monday through Friday 9, 9:40, 10:20, 11, 1:20, 2, and 3:20).

If you are asking for advice as to how your son should approach the interview (from a "strategic standpoint"), my response to tbhnams in post #251 of the thread "I'll Answer Your Lafayette Questions!" should suffice.

All the best,

Thank you for all the helpful advice. Returning in the fall sounds like a good idea. This will give him time to work on his application and get another look at a day with classes in session. I referred to your earlier post which was very
helpful.
