Junior Worried About College Admission

Hi,

I have recently got my SAT score (3rd attempt) 2030. I don't know why I do so poorly considering that all my closest friends achieve over 2300 (no joke, and I'm not considered the dumbest out of them all). After junior year I have had only 1 B, around a 3.97 unweighted gpa. I would like to think that my high school, Lynbrook, has relatively rigorous academic classes and good students, as each year around 30 students alone go to Berkeley.

So here's the breakdown:
SAT 2030 (reading 610, math 720, writing 700)
SAT II (math lvl2 760, chinese 790, have yet to take physics but I have been getting 750+ on diags)
5APs 4 honors by senior year (including calc, lit and comp, stats, all 3 sciences, japanese, etc)
Band 3 years (1 year concert, 2 years advanced band)
Clubs: 3 years Japanese National Honor Society
3 years Red Cross (VP for 2 years)
over 100 hours of community service
4 years of basketball (2 year jv, 2 year varsity) with scholar athlete awards
over 7 years discipline of martial arts
1st place in Chinese School Grad (don't know if this matters)

sorry for the lengthiness but here are my questions...
I know some school listed are pretty ridiculous for me, but what are my chances of getting into these universities for computer science

CMU, Berkeley, UCSD, UCLA, Cornell, UWashtingon, Princeton, UMichigan

The average UC Berkeley admitted SAT score was 2068 this year and average unweighted GPA of 3.89. So you have a decent shot at Berkeley. Berkeley Engineering, however, is much more competitive and your chances are greatly diminished for that. I would advise you to apply to the College of Letters and Science and plan on getting a CS degree there rather than an EECS degree - the CS curriculum is identical.

I would say you have a decent shot at UCLA and a pretty good shot (low-end match) at UCSD (its average admitted SAT score was 1991).

CMU will be very tough for SCS. Pretty much on the same level of difficulty as Berkeley Engineering.
Not that familiar with admissions stats at the others.

Princeton is a very, very high reach, but if you have great essays you never know (although I’m going to tell you now that you probably won’t get in). You chance is made worse if you are Asian.

If you think you can do better on the SAT with more studying, then by all means retake the SAT in the fall.
Be sure to focus on doing something interesting and meaningful this summer.
And start thinking about essay topics and start a few rough outlines. Keep a list on your desk of random topics that come to mind. Contemplate your life while in the shower. Contemplate your life while lying in bed. When an idea pops into your head, immediately write it down.

If the SAT isn’t working for you, try the ACT! Some people find one much easier than the other. Judging by your SAT subject tests/APs, it seems that you’re good at math and science, so the science section on the ACT might be good for you!
