Hello! I am currently a junior at a pretty competitive high school. Through all of last year and the first quarter of this year, I have maintained a 3.95 GPA (out of 4.3), and my cumulative GPA is 3.86. This latest quarter, however, I received 1 A+ (IB French 4), 3 A's (Honors Physics, IB English 3, and AP USH) but also 1 B+ (IB-SL Chem), 1 B- (BC Calculus), and 1 C+ (IB Economics- there were less than 200 points for the whole marking period, and I really only did poorly on 1 test).
I don't think it happened because I worked any less hard, but now I'm worried that it will affect my chances of getting into my top choices (Reed, UChicago, RPI, Purdue, Swarthmore, and Pomona). Also, I'm not taking SAT's until March 9th, so I'm feeling the pressure even more because of this. Please provide any possible insights. Thank you!

Will these grades be averaged out for the semester or year, or do they appear on your transcript as you just stated?

I think it’s only semester averages, but considering how ultra-competitive each of those schools is, I think that the average for the classes (Chem is down to an A-, Calc a B+, and Econ a B) I mentioned will probably lower my chances quite a bit.

The only issue I see is the C. I personally have a 3.85 unweighted and plan on applying to two of the schools on your list, none of my counselors (all of which deal with top school admissions regularly) think that my GPA would be the reason for my rejection if it happens. So yeah, basically try and improve the C to a B and just try and get better grades next semester.

lol, same here, mine is a 3.54 uw( REALLY Comptetive public school, top in my state), and I got a 3.69 this first sem. so my gpa only wen tup to a 3.57. this this competitive for top uc’s?
