Junior Year Course Selection! Help!

I have to pick Junior year classes tomorrow and I have no idea what to do :( I am a sophomore right now.
I am in:
AP World History
Journalism 1
Gymnastics
Lunch
Honors Chemistry
Advanced Honors Algebra
Honors Spanish 3
Honors Literature

Next year I have to take:
AP World History
Gym
Lunch
AP Physics 1
AP American Literature
Honors Pre-Calc

That leaves me 2 open spots. I don't know if I should continue Journalism (I want to go to NYU which places a strong emphasis on writing) and Spanish (it is my WORST class and brings down my GPA). I really want to take AP Economics, AP Government and AP Psychology some time in my highschool career. What do you all recommend?? Please help I'm so stressed out.

If Spanish brings your grade down, then don’t take it. If, however, you WANT to learn Spanish and get better at it, then by all means take it. It’s sad that students nowadays refrain from taking their wanted courses because they know it will yield low grades… and all of these decisions are made to ensure that the students get the highest grades they can for… COLLEGE

I’d go and take the classes you want. The AP ones.

Many selective colleges require 3 or 4 years of the same language. Take a look at secondary course recommendations on college’s websites you are interested in.

Maybe regular rather than honors level spanish if your grades are low in Spanish?

You’re gonna take AP World twice?

Oops I meant AP US History… sorry long day haha. And my school does not offer regular level Spanish level. Do you think that taking another year of Spanish would be more beneficial that other AP classes or continuing Journalism?

I think it depends what you want to do. You could stop at Honors Spanish 3 if you want, especially since you’re struggling. I think colleges prefer to see 3 OR 4 years of a language, so I don’t think it really matters that much.
Don’t take my advice so seriously, though. I’m only a sophomore, too.

I second 2prepMom. Some colleges won’t even consider you if you have only two years of language in high school…

Are AP Gov and AP Econ each whole year classes at your school? At my school they’re 1 semester each and everyone does them in their senior year.

Do you have any inkling as to whether or not you’ll be an editor or have some kind of special title in Journalism next year? I think (personally) that if you have a good shot at being an editor next year in Journalism that you should take it. This way, you can prove to colleges that you can be a leader. If not, and if you don’t particularly like journalism/writing in general, I think you should take AP Psych.

But this is my opinion and it’s your schedule. You should definitely look at what classes you will potentially be taking in your senior year and see how they’ll all balance out. Also think about what you want to do in the future and what you like doing. And don’t forget that junior year is stressful just because it’s junior year and you need to leave yourself some time to relax!

Thank you so much for all of your advice!
I have decided next year to take:
AP US History
Gym (Leadership Program)
Lunch
AP Physics 1
AP American Literature
Honors Pre-Calc
Journalism
Spanish 4

and senior year:
AP Economics
AP English
AP Calculus BC
AP Government
AP Environmental Science
Journalism
Leadership Gym
Lunch

Thanks again you guys gave great advice!

Yeah, even though it seems like Spanish won’t serve you in your career, a lot of people tend to not understand the importance of 3+ years of a foreign language in terms of college admissions.
