So I’m going into my junior year, and I am just concerned that my schedule isn’t hard enough to get into the schools that I’ve been looking at (so far my top picks are Duke, and Emory).
Is this okay for a schedule:
AP Calculus BC
AP World History
AP Lit
H. Chem
Engineering (graduation requirement)
Jazz Band
Weight Training
I’m thinking about switching weight training to another academic class, but I’m afraid that 4 AP classes will be too much for me to handle. Plus I have already worked through the majority of the AP classes offered at my school. But is this schedule enough to get me into my top choices?
Where is your foreign language?
3 AP classes is definitely fine. Rigor is definitely important, but that extra AP class is never worth sacrificing getting good grades overall. Taking Calculus BC as a junior already shows that you are way ahead and can handle rigor.
I went to a language middle school so I took 3 years of French then, and another 2 years of French at the high school. My school doesn’t offer French 6 though, so I had to drop it or take AP French
Doesn’t everyone take 3 years of language in middle school though?
Schools only count what you have done in high school, and 2 years of a language doesn’t always look great.
My high school just doesn’t offer any more French after French 5, except for AP French
I think I’d take AP French instead of weight training this year and take weight training senior year if you really want to.
No.
Not true. For foreign language, the vast majority of colleges consider level completed as equivalent to years studied.
Personally, I would swap weight training for AP French, but it would not make or break your application.
I feel bad for the students who have to take Engineering class in order to graduate
