Colleges care about BOTH the rigor of the classes you take AND how you did in them, as well as what you did outside of the classroom. When you apply to colleges you list your current[ Sr year classes] as well as completed classes and admissions officers look at your total record, not just what you have done by the end of your Jr year, though that year is important. There is NO NEED to take 4 AP’s your JR year in an effort to make Natl AP scholar, unless you are an especially strong student, both you AND your guidance counselor think you can easily handle those classes with NO resulting DIP in your GPA, and it won’t require you to drop an important outside EC. [ remember to make Natl AP scholar also requires you to score 4’s or 5’s on 4 exams-not an easy feat!] You should consider moving AP Spanish to your Sr year, when you take AP Chem and Bio. Balance and overall academic strength is what colleges care about.

I don’t think I want to move spanish 5 to senior year because it’s technically the last year of spanish at my school. There is an independent spanish 6 hon which has like 2 people in it. I might forget a lot of vocab/grammar, so I think it’s best to finish it next year.

Correction: I would need to take 5 aps jr year to get national ap scholar, so taking 3-4 is what I’m considering at this point.

You can never “finish” Spanish. Please take Spanish as long as possible! 5 years puts you nowhere close to fluency. I know because I have been learning a foreign language (English!) for a long time.

My, you do worry about this a lot. In college, you’ll need to take 4-5 finals over 3 days, so this would be good practice.

If such a schedule looks too tough, take less APs. However, much depends on where you hope to apply for college. If you’re planning on applying to HYPSM, you need to keep in mind that any of your classmates who take more APs and get As in them will have a higher weighted GPA, which could cause your class rank to fall, even if you do get straight As. There’s no way to avoid taking some risks if you want to be at the top of the class.

There is an ap psychology (online). I’m not sure how hard that class is…any ideas? It could possibly be another choice jr/sr. year.

Senior year:
AP Calc Bc
AP eng lit
AP gov
AP env
AP pysch/or bio?
hon accounting 2/spanish 6 (if it’s still offered)?
free period

I don’t think anyone is planning to take more than 4 next yr. Most are doing AP US + AP Eng and maybe AP Bio.

“*I’m not considering taking Ap bio or chem, the most rigorous sciences at my school. Will this hurt my rigor or if I plan to go to college for some math/science type major?”
IF you wish to show a strong interest in Science on your college applications, then you should seriously consider taking AP Chem during your Sr year, and skip EP envi/ and AP Psych. Some science majors wont require Bio classes in college, but ALL science majors require at least a year of college level chemistry, which in all likelyhood is going to be harder than any AP Chem class. So taking AP Chem will accomplish 2 things- prepare you better for college level Chem and any science major you eventually decide on, and demonstrate your interest in Science to colleges in a credible manner.
