junior year schedule (high school). Help me!

I am currently a sophomore in high school and unsure about which classes to take next year. I don't want to go too easy, but I also don't want to burn myself out and get bad grades. I'm aiming for UC Davis or UCSD.

this is the schedule I'm thinking about for next year:
French 3
Psychology
Algebra 2
U.S. History
Chemistry AP
English 3 AP

I'm a 4.0 student but that's only because I'm taking easy classes this year. Here is my current schedule (if it helps):
french 2
P.E.
geometry
world history
Chemistry
english 2 acc.

What career are you looking into? I would say step up on the math, see if you can work in some type of deal with your counselor to move yourself up to pre-calculus or even regular calculus, since pre-calc goes over most of the same concepts in ALG II. AP Psych, maybe?
I’d say more courses/more APs in general - I don’t have as many options myself for APs.

thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely try to be in a higher level math course. Maybe I’ll do a summer course…

There aren’t many options for APs, there’s no AP psychology and limited class choices.

what is your schedule?

You guys are funny. If you plan to skip over a math class you better know what you are doing, especially since you said you didn’t want to burn out. I don’t know how much of a logically-minded person you are, but it is generally ill-advised to skip over the more thought-provoking courses like geometry and precalculus/math analysis unless you are exceptional in the field. Also, remember that your teachers will know that you skipped and math teachers typically don’t like that sort of thing and wont be too happy. I do have experience in this area; I am a junior at my high school this year and I am taking Differential Equations at UCSD.

The AP Chemistry looks good, I took it my sophomore year and the class is pretty easy, but most people do badly on the actual ap exam so watch out. I don’t know what your major is, but I would drop the Psychology class and maybe self-study the AP (It doesn’t HAVE to be offered at your school to take the exam) if you still want to learn it or show that you know it.

Junior year is the most important, and you need to take the hardest classes available at your school. Private schools (I’m not sure about UC’s) determine whether or not to admit you based SOLELY upon you performance in the environment provided (i.e. If your school has AP classes then they want you to take them)

By far the best thing you can do to help your situation will be to get something higher than a 2100 on the SAT and take a couple SAT II’s.

Hope this helps!

How about this,

French 3
Psychology( Half a Semester right?)
Algebra 2 H
U.S. History H
AP Chem
AP Lang= English 3 AP

Reason why is because the strenght of your class is a huge thing if you want to go to UCSD.
