Junior Year Schedule - need some insight?

Apparently, I just found out I'm going to be called in for scheduling tomorrow, which is A LOT sooner than I had expected. I seriously could benefit from more time to consider, but this is kind of tentative idea that I sketched out since last week.

AP Chemistry
AP Psychology
AP Art History
AP English Language
Pre-Cal Honors
English III Honors
Spanish III Honors
Health/Phys. Ed (district requirement,ugh)

Self-Study: possibly AP Stats

So, here's the situation, I'm slightly hesitant about AP English Language because English is definitely not my strongest subject, but I'm kind of at a loss as to what else I should take. I could take AP Physics B, but I have absolutely no physics background and I'm planning on saving it till senior year. But I don't want to double up on sciences either and at the same time, AP Physics is a double-block class, which means I would have to give up another AP class. But everyone (as in peers and some teachers) are begging me to take it and they think I'm foolish because I didn't take it as sophomore.

My Literature teacher, who is also the AP English Lang. teacher recommended me for AP English Language. He's an amazing teacher (changed a lot of people's lives and mine too haha) and probably the one of the only reasons I want to take AP English Language is to have him again (although I don't mind having him senior year). I have become a lot stronger in writing this year and a better analyzer- although nowhere near the level I would like to be at (unless I could miraculously improve over the summer?)

I don't know what to do. Sorry for being so long-winded.

If your teacher recommended you to take that class, you should take it. He wouldn’t recommend you if he thought you weren’t a fit for it. But your schedule seems fine for junior year. You don’t need to double up on science junior year. Junior year is a pretty tough year, don’t kill yourself.

I was in the same boat too! My sophomore English teacher pretty much failed. You won’t be automatically expected to be a great analyzer (I know I wasn’t at the beginning of this year) but through practice and a good teacher (seems like you have one) that will improve. I’m getting about 70%-75% on the multiple choice. As long as your teacher teaches you your essays well and you practice often, your skills will build and it will be fine.

Would you take English III Honors instead of AP Lang. then, or do you have to take them both at the same time?

As for physics, I would save it for senior year and take Physics C if it’s available - that’s what I’m doing.

Your schedule looks good. If your teacher recommended you to lake Lang, then you should take it. He knows that you’re obviously ready, so go for it. Don’t take AP Physics if you don’t have a background. My cousin took AP without having a basic knowledge of physics, and now she’s struggling really bad.

I would be taking both at the same time. It’s required that students take English III Honors in junior year.

Since you brought that up, is that okay - taking AP English Lang. and English III Honors at the same time?

English was not my best subject. I did not do well in the class, but apparently my teachers still thought I was an undiscovered genius… I highly doubt that. But that’s beside the point. I took the class and came out of it with a B each semester. I came out of the AP test with a 5… my classmates who got As and A+s in the class came out with 3s and 4s…

Taking English III Honors would probably help you with AP English Lang. since your weak subject is English.

Overall, your schedule seems manageable. Don’t worry about AP English. English is also my weak subject, but I manage to get an A last quarter because I improved my writing by reading a grammar handbook and I became more analytical by reading the essays in the class. And if the AP English Language teacher is like you said is amazing and life-changing, have him again next year.

I’m going to be a junior next year as well and your schedule seems very do-able. The only thing I’m questioning is why you’re taking English III AND AP Lang. At my school, AP Lang. supercedes English III. I just find it odd and unnecessary to take both of them.

AP Chemistry Difficult Course
AP Psychology Easy Course…VERY easy
AP Art History Another very easy course
AP English Language I love this class, it’s easy but there’s a lot of work
Pre-Cal Honors Easy stuff
English III Honors Taking this class will give you an edge with AP Lang, but both are Excellent courses, don’t be worried about Lang
Spanish III Honors Easy stuff.

Self-studying Stat is quite an undertaking. I took it this year and that AP test straight up killed me. It was very very very difficult. However, I had probably the most incompetant teacher of all time.

Your schedule looks pretty manageable. Taking AP Physics all depends upon what your teacher expects out of you. At my school, we do NO basic Physics stuff, going straight into thermodynamics, so ask your teachers and get a feel for what you can handle.

Best of luck:)

The courses really depend on your highschool. Many self-studied world history for instance, yet at my school, the workload is VERY heavy.

I say take what you want to take and take the heaviest course load. The two sound conflicting, but if learning is fun/easy to you (to me it is) then taking a lot of AP courses won’t be as burdening. I say you go ask an upperclassman/woman that can tell you how hard those teachers are.

But your courseload seems pretty good. Btw, Statistics is a b**…, I self-studied it and I’ll get a 3 if I am lucky. But then again, I started studying like a week before the exam haha.
