Hey im picking my classes for junior year, and im not sure which ap science course and math course i should take next year. I plan on doing bioengineering in college. I’m going to be finished with both bio and chem this year. i dont know whether to do ap chem or ap bio. for math, i’ll be finished with algebra 2 trig this year, but i can’t tell if i should do precalc or precalc honours because i heard that precalc honours is hella hard. honestly, i really want a laidback year, but still maintain a 4.0+. any suggestions please?
I am a sophomore who is currently in Pre-AP Pre-Calc/Trig. Pre-Calc is different from Alg 2 because it is a lot of memorization. Ap Bio is easier than AP Chem.
I hear AP Bio has tons of content, but has a higher pass rate than AP Chem.
If you plan on doing bioengineering in college, you should take precalc honors and get an A. Either AP Chem or Bio would be fine, but Chem focuses more on problem sets (with mathematical word problems) while Bio is mostly tons of reading.
For engineering, you really need precalc honors. Yes it’s hard but… nothing compared to what you purport to want, ie., engineering. As for AP bio vs AP chem: go talk to the teachers and ask your current teachers’ opinion.
Finally, a 3.8 isn’t bad even if a 4.0 is better. A 3.8 with a rigorous schedule is better than a 4.0 with regular classes.
I would recommend AP bio because Chem is hell. Be sure to get in physics at some point, if you haven’t already. I would take precalc honors; you’ll be glad you took it when you get into calculus.
how is ap chem hell? like what parts of it is hard?
AP Chem is difficult if you don’t understand how things work on a molecular level. If you do, you’re set. If you don’t… have fun. I’d suggest taking AP Bio anyways, since bio and physics are important for a bioengineering major.
As for precalculus, judge your own abilities. It is slightly more memorization than Algebra II, but that’s just because you have to know trig formulas and stuff. It’s definitely a lot less memorization than Calculus. If you plan on taking AP Calculus, take honors, because regular precalculus doesn’t prepare you for AP Calculus. It’s better to get a 3.8 with classes that prepare you for stuff than a 4.0 with classes that will leave you miserable senior year.
