Hey! Would this be an okay schedule (I know a LOT of work must be put in, but I’m willing to put in effort).
AP English Lang
World Langage Honors
AP Calc AB or BC (still have to decide)
AP US History 2
Music (Orchestra)
AP Bio or AP Physics 1
With the first six classes and the general content, would AP Bio or AP Physics 1 be more suitable? I know they’re all hard classes, but I’ve heard that Bio is more memorizing and analytical while Physics 1 is like raw math. So with the first six classes, what could be a better option? Whatever I take junior year, I’d take the other science in senior year.
@MYOS1634 thanks for the reply! I appreciate it! At my school, we can only take either AP Calc AB or BC (can’t take both). And we don’t have APES, but I was thinking of doing Calc AB or BC and Physics I next year and then AP Bio senior year (I’m taking Stats this year.
You need to have a math if you’re aiming for top 100 colleges for STEM. If aiming for a top 100 for Humanities you could offset that.
Generally speaking you can’t double up on a subject at the expense of a core class.
@MYOS1634 I agree 100%. The only problem was that the way how the schedule was, I either had to take something over the summer, or not taking a course at all. So I thought the first one might be better.
Sophomore:
Gym
Band/Orchestra
Chemistry Honors
AP Stats
French 2 Honors
English 2 Honors
Algebra 2 Honors
AP US History 1
Junior (planned):
Gym
Band/Orchestra
AP Physics 1 (or AP Bio, if recommended?)
AP Calc AB or BC
AP English Lang
AP US History 2
French 3 Honors
(Dual enrollment for Anatomy and Physiology)
Summer before Junior:
Pre-Calculus Honors
(Maybe some small dual enrollment course at state university)
Summer after Junior (planned):
Maybe, take summer off to self study or dual enrollment or shadowing/volunteering (haven’t really decided)
Senior:
Gym
Band/Orchestra
AP Bio (or AP Chem)
AP English Literature
French 4 Honors
Psychology/Sociology
AP Computer Science A (principles not offered)
I hope to get into a BS/MD program (hopefully) if that helps.
Sorry for the long post, some people dislike that I plan so far ahead, but I’m really interested in scheduling and all?
Is Gym mandatory every year?
Assuming it is, here’s a proposed revision:
Summer after sophomore year
Precalculus Honors
START WORKING ON A BIG PROJECT WITH ONE EC
Have fun outside (seriously. If you have a trick question about what you’ve done last summer you don’t want to say “I took a summer class”, and a good answer about spending time with friends riding bikes/at the neighborhood pool/shooting hoops) or do something non academic (watching kids at bible camp/helping old neighbors out with lawn/working at the concessions stand by the lake… will be valued too - but not more than “having fun with no competition”)
Junior Year
Gym
Band/Orchestra
AP Physics 1
AP Calc AB
AP English Lang
AP US History 2
French 3 Honors
(Dual enrollment for Anatomy and Physiology) => not necessary since you’re not going into Nursing but what about taking Introduction to Ethics (or whatever is the pre-req for bioethics at your local college). Take in the Fall: the Spring will be SAT/ACT test prep central.
CONTINUE BIG PROJECT
Summer after Junior year
CONTINUE BIG PROJECT
See if a local community college offers a Biology class for non majors so you get used to college science classes without risking anything (if you take the premed version, it’s weedout AND will count against you when you apply for BS/MD AND if you don’t get when you apply for med school 4 years later!) See if they offer Bioethics in the Summer
Senior year
Gym
Band/Orchestra
AP Chem => most important class for premed (Chemistry/biochemistry are the key premed classes)
AP English Literature
French 4 Honors
Psychology OR Sociology in the Fall => take dual enrollment Bioethics in the Spring
AP Computer Science A (principles not offered)
DUAL ENROLLMENT Calculus 2 in the Spring (Fall = College applications)
@MYOS1634 thank you soo much for the detailed reply! It’s a wonderful option and really appreciate it! Just a small question, what do you mean by “big project with EC”?
Whatever you’re interested in or has potential for wideranging impact in your community/school among your EC’s/hobbies, develop it, create a team, etc.
@MYOS1634 I really like playing/composing music, learning languages, doing stuff for my culture/religion. I help teach Sanskrit at a local school, part of a Mini Med School, part of a few orchestras and bands, part of a government program that promotes community service (part of this program, starting June, we are required to commence a community project). I really want to volunteer and shadow a doctor, but every institution around me limits age to 16 and above (and I’m 15). But yeah, aside from that, I’m part of mock trial in school and a few other things. I am really looking forward to doing some more community work.
