junior year schedule

well i can leave my schedule as this

ap stats
ap physics
ap chem
ap calc
free period or i can add in AP human geo instead of the free period

should i do it? how hard is this ap? will colleges look down on my taking a free period?

My god, stats, physics, chem, and calc in one year. I would go nuts O_o

I would just take the free period. Hell no, colleges wouldn't. Lots of prep schools give their kids free periods for studying.

Am I confused? Where is your English? What about foreign language?

it's kind of weird with me ebeeee because i transferred from a british system and did english & spanish up to the pre ap level ( i will be doing ap english next year as well)

will me not having any english look bad? im doing ap english next year and i did up to pre-ap english last year

anyone else? this is sort of urgent... i need to know by tmr O_O

Are you applying to US schools? Seems like every list I've seen requires 4 years of English....not a certain level, but a certain number of years.

As for AP Human Geo, the 9th graders at our high school take it. (It's not easy for them, however.) It appears to be a fascinating course.

having a free period is perfectly fine. Probably 95% of kids at ivy league schools have had a free period (or two) at some point of there high school career. I also have a free period, and i doubt it will harm my chances of getting into Harvard.

So, only take Ap Human Geo. if you're interested in the class, if you decide not to take it, it won't have a negative effect on your college admissions. AND, colleges don't really care about AP human Geo. anyways...

oh man i am freaking out right now
this is so weird because im an international student and in our system, high school is actually 5 years. so i have 5 years of english but now i switched to an international school and im doing the american syllybus and im doing those 4 aps and will be doing ap english next year... oh man, is there anyway i can get in contact with a college rep or so? emailing them would take too long ( need to finalize my schedule by tmr) :(

Pick up the phone and call.

AP Human Geo is really really easy.

I'd take it.

ahh i phoned mit, caltech, columbia and rice and they all said that in my specific case i dont need to take any more english than i already have

hey , its me back again…

i just wanted to know if it’s doable to upgrade my calc AB to calc BC ( my school only offers AB though) and self study the BC portion? also, is it possible for me to self study physics C? What about Bio? I’m concerned that my junior year schedule isnt rigorous enough… most kids i see on here do more than 4 APs per year. However, my school has a schedule where you have 4 classes each day so over 2 days my schedule looks like this

AP calc
AP physics
Ap chem
AP stats
study hall
AP calc
AP physics
AP chem

will colleges see that i did take the hardest load possible?

dude, don’t stress about it. You already have far more AP classes than the average person. FAR MORE!!! If you haven’t noticed, it seems that the majority of kids who hang out here are the super-crazy-7 AP classes-3 sports-4 clubs-400 hrs. volunteering people. It is not representative of the average college admissions population, except for if your desired schools are HYPM. It is possible to self-study for a lot of classes, but if you want to have a life, don’t bother. Don’t worry about needing to do Calc. BC. Even if you want to get in to Harvard or Yale, what you have is more than enough. Focus more on your EC’s and enjoying yourself.

okay thanks

my main picks are mit, caltech and rice ( although mit and caltech are high reaches… rice is a low reach i think).

the reason im kinda confused about this whole thing is because i just switched over from my local system to the american system (im international) so i’ll have a sort of “hybrid” education >_>

anyone else?

I don’t think 4 classes junior year is enough (even if they are AP’s). Take human geo and consider adding a college course. All high achieving students at my school took at least 4 AP (usually 5) + music, sport, newspaper, or a combination of those in their junior year. I’m a senior and I’m taking as many AP’s as you + macroeconomics at community college. Our school is only ranked in the 700’s by US News yet it doesn’t allow students to have any less than 5 classes in their senior year.

That being said, I don’t fully understand your situation so perhaps you can take 4 classes and get away with it.

okay spud lemme try to explain it to you

im taking ap calc, ap chem, ap phys, ap calc; my school’s schedule is arranged in a way that i have calc, chem and physics every day, and i have 4 periods per day
so, on a monday for eg i have these classes

AP calc
AP chem
APphys
AP stats
then on a tuesday i have

AP chem
AP phys
AP calc
free…

so i am using 7 out of 8 slots…

since school started 2 months ago… is it too late for me to consider self studying an AP? i guess its too late for me to join any more classes… sigh

There is no AP arms race. I wish I realized this before I started going overkill on my schedule. Colleges just want to see that you are challenging yourself. People get into Harvard, MIT, and the top schools with one or two AP courses. Unless you really have something to prove or are genuinely interested in taking all of these courses, I’d suggest you stick with what you’ve already committed to.

High unlikely in my opinion.

does anyone else have any idea on this?
