I am planning on taking 5 AP classes my junior year. All my councelors are discouraging me and making me feel as though I can't do it. However, currently I have a 4.4 GPA and I want to be competive for Ivy League and top tier universities. My councelors think I should only tak 2 AP classes because it is supposedly "school policy". However, I don't feel as though I will be competive with only 2 AP classes. Do you think I am overdoing it?

How many AP Classes did you take your sophomore year?

I am taking 2 AP classes this year.

Honestly, if you’re willing to put forth the effort, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able take 5 APs next year. I took 2 APs as a sophomore and I’m getting straight As as a full IB Diploma Candidate [8 IB courses] right now. Of course, I’m working my ass off, but it’s definitely doable.
