Time and time again, I've heard that junior year is one of the most important years in high school when it comes to academics.

I've always signed up for as many AP/IB/Honors classes as my schedule would allow, knowing the importance of academic rigor when it comes to college applications. At the completion of my freshman year, I had finished 5 honors classes and at the completion of my sophomore year, I had completed an additional 3 honors classes, 2 AP classes, and 2 IB classes.

However, the summer before my junior year my family and I moved to a new state which meant that I had to fulfill new (unweighted) graduation requirements that were not required at my old school. Halfway through the 2nd quarter of my junior year, my family moved AGAIN, meaning I had to transfer schools again. Unfortunately, this new school did not offer the AP classes that I had started. This new school also had a different schedule than the previous school, and I had transferred too late in the year to enroll in any new AP classes.

So basically, my junior year schedule consisted of graduation requirements, unnecessary electives (put in my schedule just to fill in the 3-week span between my move and the next quarter), and one quarter of an honors class. My weighted GPA dropped pretty significantly from the beginning to end of junior year.

However, because of the rigor of my schedule before I moved, I do currently rank at the top of my class. Also, I loaded my senior schedule with multiple AP classes to try and "make up" for lost time.

Knowing that colleges place pretty significant importance on the 10th and 11th grade years, I'm worried that my junior year would be a red flag on my transcript. Would selective colleges consider the drop of my GPA and the lack of rigor during my junior year to be signs of laziness and slacking? Do I still have a chance of getting into a selective university like UC Berkeley with these stats?
