Hi! I'm a junior and I've been looking around for summer jobs. I've applied to a couple of fast food restaurants and retail stores but have not gotten anything back. I've searched for internships but most of them require a high school diploma. I want to be a business major or possibly a social humanities major in the education field... so I was hoping I could do something over summer to reflect that and prepare me for my major.

Is there any tips you have to find summer jobs, any ideas of possible jobs I could search for that would be easy for a teen to acquire yet would benefit me in my future major, or should I just take a college course like Business Calculus

thanks!

How about starting your own business this summer?

Starting your own business is a great idea! You would also have time to take the college course because you can set your own hours. Good luck :)

My son is a junior, and he just got a job at Panera Bread. He also applied to a couple of supermarkets. Many of the supermarkets around here give scholarships to their workers, plus you get discounts on purchases including groceries and gas which can really help your family out. I’m sure the manager of a restaurant (especially franchise) or supermarket would be happy to talk to you about their business model. Maybe you should set up an appointment with a store manager to “interview” them about their business and be sure to bring your resume and let them know you’re interested in a job. Many adult job seekers use this strategy. If they don’t have an opening right then, they may keep you in mind for later.
