How much does a college look at your junior year of high school, and how much of an effect does your senior year have on college acceptance. Because i basically had a very average junior year and intend on basing my college choices on the hopes that i will be successful my senior year hoping i can up my credentials which will in turn help me get into better schools. Just looking for some feedback to see how much senior year can do for me and how much it could actually help me get into a better college.

Junior year is the MOST important year of high school, as is seen by college admissions officers. Senior year is also important and can boost your grades at the last minute, but the bulk of the GPA weight by college admissions officers is seen in the sophomore and JUNIOR year.

It won't help that much. Even if you apply RD, colleges see one semester of your grades, and even if they are significantly higher, probably aren't willing to take a chance on you based on just one grading period's improvement.

Since you should be applying for colleges early in you Senior year your Junior and Sophomore year will be the one that admission counselors will most be looking for the most.. Colleges will put the least emphasis on your Freshman grades.

If you are applying Early Decision: then in order of importance from most imp. to least
Junior, Sophomore, Freshman
Regular decision:
Junior, Senior, Sophomore, Freshman

If you messed up one year and did well other years, i would like to think they will consider you

what do you mean by average?

Junior year is the most important year by far.

Let's say the formula is 60% JR, 20% SR, 15% SO, 5% FR.

i have a 3.0 cumulative gpa with all IB courses at the 214th ranked school in the nation and i am in the top 40% in my class. I earned a 23 on my ACT and am taking it again in october. Do you guys recommend i apply RD then?

I would recommend RD, and you should work hard on raising that ACT.

Trying to raise your gpa can't hurt, either, though I agree with everyone else that junior year grades will weigh significantly.

It also sort of depends on the schools you want to apply to, of course.
