To be brief:
-I have a 4.96 overall gpa (weighted out of 5)
-33 on ACT
730 on bio freshman year
730 on MATH 1 sophomore year (might retake with MATH 2 this year)
-all honors and AP courses
-mainly do squash as an extra curricular
-going to be lettered all years in squash and two years in tennis
-possibly one year in laccrosse
-did lots of community service over the summer
-both parents went to UPenn
Chances of getting into UPenn?

Zero. You don’t even know the correct name of the U. Also, I smell ■■■■■.

I’d say depending on your test scores you should do pretty well. However, you might want to focus some EC’s on something you might want to do (for now it seems very sports heavy). Adding on legacy you should be fine!

Even if your test scores are 2200+, you have like no EC’s. Get more EC’s and you will have a much better chance

More ECs and your good, my friend got with a 3.9 UW and 31 ACT (33 Superscored), but he was also on ASB for 3 years, president of ecology club, co-editor of yearbook, and had played 2 years of golf.

sorry i forgot to specify. I got a 33 first try on the act and a 730 on bio freshman year and a 730 and math1 sophomore year… Also I am talking UPENN. Thanks for any feedback

Academically you are pretty qualified, but you need more ECs. You have a tone of sports which shows good team work but you need some academic clubs and more leadership positions to be competitive.

My thread (chance please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html

Your ECs are non competitive in the slightest bit. It’s going to be tough as a second semester junior to get involved in worthwhile extracurriculars. Don’t pad your activites, it’ll look even worse. Just make for of an effort. Had you done this before, you’d have a great shot. But as of now, reach.

Chance back!

Your ecs need a little work but legacy helps
Low reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1609142-chance-me-i-will-definately-100-chance-you-back.html#latest

High Reach with those ECs.

Test scores, GPA and double legacy are all good. ECs- you have a solid base but need to go higher. NOT HARDER, but HIGHER. Do some unique stuff, man.

Academically, you do well with your legacy. However, like everyone has said, your ECs need a bit of work.

First, sports wise, make sure you have either some leadership role or awards showing your competitiveness.

Secondly, find something other than sports you are very interested in. You could choose to start/join a club, and compete for the leadership. Regarding this other interest, you could find an intern related to it, create and become leader of a club, or use this interest to compete somehow. I don’t know your interests, but try to incorporate competition, leadership, or problem solving experience into it.

As a Junior you have some time. Starting a club isn’t too late, if you have friends that are interested. Right not, UPENN may be a bit of a reach, even with your academics and legacy, but show a little competition and your in for sure.

@Woandering- Every kid and their brother who applies to UPenn and the like is the founder and president of 13132x clubs, that is done ad nauseum. There is nothing wrong with playing a sport just because you like it and not having an official leadership role. My HS didn’t have sports team leadership roles.

Nothing wrong with it, but unless your school is well known for sports (mine isn’t) you really do need to stand out a bit. At schools like mine, everyone gets to participate in sports, and depending on the sport, everyone gets Varsity. So, unless the college knows your school is athletically competitive inside the school, you won’t get much attention for it. Again, this is from the perspective of getting into college. There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing and having fun with a sport you love.
