The infamous year is coming up for me and I'm scared because everyone obsesses about how hard and depressing this year is. Does anyone have any tips/advice for me so I can get through junior year with the least amount of difficulty possible?

people are just exagerating when they talk about it. it isn't really that bad. It is stressful but that is how school is. Just do your best and you will fly right through it.

treat it just like every other year, except with a few extras like SAT and PSAT.

^oh yeah,

but you shouldn't concentrate on the SAT alone of course.

it's a shame no one psoted in this thread, I decided to bump it up.

I cant wait for school to start... well i can wait... but i cant lol...

rebumping stuck-on-1700's bump

This year might feel like college since I am going to be taking 5 AP courses. That's like taking 5 freshmen college courses.

lol il bandito good luck! Just of out of curiosity, what AP classes are you taking?

junior year isn't that bad, but its alot more difficult that sophmore year, ap's sat, act, plan, psat, upperclassmen social life, and the need to have ec's started.

My GPA junior year sucked. About 0.8 lower than it had been up up to that point. However, I feel as though I slacked off less and that my courses were less demanding.. so I'm not really sure what happened.

First semester I went out a lot, maybe too much, and devoted a good deal of time to soccer. Second semester my social life was quite a bit more tame but I had an enormous amount of soccer.

I think I might have felt a little more overwhelmed than I really was, which was most likely my downfall.

ADVICE- Just stay in the moment and don't get caught up with worrying about things. Plan out when you're going to be taking the PSAT/SAT/AP tests and more importantly, WHEN YOU'LL BE STUDYING FOR THEM. If you plan out when you want to start to really study for a particular test, it should help keep out tension about "OMG!! I'm not ready, it's going to be so hard, how/when will I prepare!??!!"

I don't know about you, but when I look back on each year of high school, they all seem to have gone by pretty quickly. Just deal with the year that you're in and know that while it is important to your future, high school makes up only about 1/20 of your life; and in the course of that life, you're going to be presented with matters far more difficult than junior year.

collegegirl498, my AP agenda:

AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics
AP Chemistry
AP Government
AP Spanish

My Advice:
1.) Stay on top of ACT/SAT/SAT II test dates because they pop up before you realize it. Take SAT II's at the very end of the year so you have a full-year's worth of knowledge instead of only a semester's worth.

2.) Don't freak out about AP Exams. If you studied hard from the beginning, you will do fine.

3.) Don't procrastinate!

4.) Use study halls -if you have one- effectively

5.) Spring break is a good time to tour colleges

6.) Use a planner often and write everything down. I personally prefer using my hand because I never forget it if I write it on my hand.

7.) Meet with a college counselor.

8.) Stay organized!!

9.) Plan on staying up until at least 11:30

10.) In AP classes, take notes on everything teacher says and read ahead/research future class topics/do all reading so you have something to say in class. Also, study/skim notes for AP classes frequently.

11.) Stay on teachers' good sides. This is the year to start considering which teacher you will ask for a rec.

That's all I think of for now.

My AP's for Junior year:

AP US History
AP Lit & Comp
AP Chem

My Junior Year blew so much ass, worst year of my life.

-My friend committed suicide.

-I screwed up in all of my classes, my highest grade throughout the entire year was an 85(art class), the rest were 77 and below. I maintained an 83 for every other year but my junior year. Junior year is probably why I'm going to CC instead of an actual university. :(

-I had so many chances to go out with this one girl, and I never went through with it. I will hate myself forever for that mistake.

-My best friend of 10+ years, admitted he was in love with my sister. He tried asking her out like 3 times, but failed each time. I rarely talk to him anymore; he started to act like an @$$hole to everyone. What's even worse is, my other good friend tried to help him get with my sister. I still talk to him.

AP Statistics is a freebie in a way. No harsh math concepts. If I were you I wouldn't take it. Maybe another social studies class, science, english or foreign language.

I'll just reiterate:

1) Stay on top of ACT/SAT/SAT II test dates because they pop up before you realize it. SOOOOOO TRUE!

5.) Spring break is a good time to tour colleges. Yes - it's really the only good time. I regret only visiting five during my spring break. Of those, I'm only applying to two.

6.) Use a planner often and write everything down. I personally prefer using my hand because I never forget it if I write it on my hand. YES.

7.) Meet with a college counselor. YES.

8.) Stay organized!!

9.) Plan on staying up until at least 11:30. - I disagree. I rarely did this (but I got up at 4:30 or 5:00 every morning).

11.) Stay on teachers' good sides. This is the year to start considering which teacher you will ask for a rec. -YES. So important.

This person gave good advice!

It's really not that bad. You'll be fine. I worked my hardest and brought my GPA up a lot.

Where do you get a college counselor? Is that like a guidance couselor?

Any opinions/advice for:

AP. Chem.
AP. Bio.
AP. US History
AP. Macroeconomics

-somehow I found myself in all of these.

should you keep up with other activities like clubs, community services....

You'll be fine as long as you don't have any serious extra curriculars. Personally, i loaded up on AP's my junior year (US History, Bio, Calc BC and Latin) and when lacrosse season came around in the spring i had to make a choice between athletics and academics. I chose to do both- and i pulled it off in the end- but it was definately the worst and most stressful 3 months of my life. If you go this route, don't expect to get more than 5 hours of sleep on a weeknight.
