wellll .. it's pretty much already december, which means we only have 6 more months of school left, and wow, come january, it seems like everything goes by so fast. it feels like the first day of school was yesterday. well anyways, where do you juniors want to apply and what do you guys want to be?

my plan's to be a pediatrician. but that can change. i've been having second thoughts about it.

i pretty much am aiming towards UC Davis, UCSD, UC Irvine, Boston University, and that's pretty much it so far.

I have average grades so I don't think i'd get into Berkeley/LA/Stanford/any other notable top university. BUT i'm aiming for a 2200+ on the SAT (which is possible if i study since i took a course over the summer and got a 1975 by the end of it).

in-state schools
-University of Missouri-Kansas City
-University of Missouri-Columbia (TIGERS WILL DESTROY SOONERS!) :)
-Truman State University
-Missouri State University
-William Jewell College

schools that I would LOVE to attend
-Brown University
-Amherst College
-Georgetown University
-Bates College
-Wesleyan University

I am in a valedictorian in NC and I want to apply to: (in order of preference)

1) Duke University
2) William & Mary
3) UNC - Chapel Hill

Duke is basically my reach. WM and Chapel Hill are my matches, although I believe Chapel Hill is my safety in this situation. I still haven't figured out what I want to do with my life; however, if I get into engineering or some other science I may consider NC State University - it is cheap and they are well-grounded in science, unlike Chapel Hill who has a more humanities feel to it.

Pratt at Duke is very tempting for engineering as well. :P

haha
So I just got the college talk from my parents last week and just earnestly started college searching. I think my "dream" schools right now are Princeton, Williams, Stanford, Dartmouth, and possibly MIT/Caltech. Talk about aiming high.. I probably won't apply to all of them but. Hey, I can dream right?

hah, my parents said they thought Cornell was my safety...Okay, parents with unrealistic expectations... I tried explaining the whole "no school with acceptances under 10% can ever be regarded anything as a safety" but...to no effect. On the other hand, if I said I wanted to go to Harvard, they would laugh at me!!

Yeah, 2120 sats this october...I really have to get back to studying. I can't believe it's been two months already! hoping to get at leasssttt 2250, which isn't that bad. Math I can definitely bring up at least 60 points if I work hard, and I'm getting much better at essay writing (took me down like 100 points).

I'm a junior and here the schools I plan on applying to:
University of Chicago
University of Michigan
Northwestern University
Bowdoin College
Colgate University
Colby College
Hamilton College
Emerson
Wesleyan
Amherst

I don't really know
I'd love to attend Brown though, but I'm pretty darn sure that would be somwhere close to impossible.
It just fits me well in location and atmosphere, and I would LOVE to be able to coregister at RISD.

Do you guys think that applying to both UMich and UNC as out-of-state for both could possibly be as good as a safety? What do you guys think about RPI?

I'm pretty sure I'll end up at Chapel Hill. I'll apply to others, of course, but I know already how it will end.
I'd like to go to Duke or Brown or some other such thing, but I'd need a good scholarship. My scores are good enough to get in, I just do not want to be in debt before I even get to med school. And I doubt my chances of getting a good scholarship for any of them.
So Chapel Hill will do, I think. Ah, if only their freshman dorms weren't so awful.

But you are instate, aren't you? I'm not sure I'd be very happy at my instate, even in the honors program. How hard is it to get into UMich and Chapel Hill oos?

Oh no, it's not because of that, I just don't particularly like the campuses of my state school, and I feel as though attending it would be like 4 more years of high school, and not quite the college experience. Also, Chapel Hill is much stronger in my areas of interest.

Ah, I see. Nothing wrong with that.
As terrible as it sounds, I'm not feeling very picky at all. Perhaps I'll figure out more of what I want by senior year. But now it feels like I'd be just fine at any of the university's around here. (Except UNCA..much too close to home. (literally, I can see their parking lot from my house. ))
