Juniors - AP 's for next year

Present Juniors, what are the AP's that you plan to take for next (senior) year? and how many?

How easy is it to self study AP computer science without much programming background?

thanks

I’m taking AP Environmental Science, AP Spanish, and AP Calc BC (which should be a breeze, I’m in AB now).

I’m signed up for AP Lit but that’s only to hold a place for me in case my dual enrollment plan doesn’t work out.

Regarding AP Comp Sci, I’ve never taken it (it’s not even offered at my school), but I’d imagine it’s pretty difficult to self-study without some sort of programming background.

I’m taking Gov’t, English Lit, and I’m still deciding on the third one. As far as Comp Sci goes, you could probably self-study it, but you have to dedicate a LOT of time to learn to program. A lot of programmers like Richard Stallman are self-taught.

For APCS, at least in my school, we need a basic Visual Basic programming class to enroll in Comp Sci. Java programming is also recommended, but it seems we never actually get enough people for it. It’ll be a lot of work, but it’s possible.

My son is signed up for AP Calc BC, Physics C, Bio, Comparative World Govt and Micro/macro Econ. Personally, I am hoping that the science classes conflict so he can take only one. He is not taking any English or foreign lang AP and he has no interest in CS or stats. He was in AP Psych this year and hated it so he dropped the course.

So far, he has done AP Euro (5) and just took the APUSH yesterday.

I don’t know anyone at our school who has done self-study AP tests.

Calc BC, Bio, Eng Lang, Stats (self), Physics C: Mech (self), Chemistry (self), Euro/Physics C: E and M/US Gov… haven’t decided yet (self)

AP Calc BC, English Lit, Physics C, US Gov, Human Geo, Latin: Virgil.

How good / easy is it to learn from an online course for APCS? Is it almost equal to normal classroom sessions assuming a good online course is chosen?

In short, is it possible to get a 5 in AP computer science from an online one year course?

Taking AP Spanish, AP Macroeconomics, AP Psych, and am enrolled in AP Lit but am questioning it.

AP Physics- non Calc
AP Calc BC
AP Psych

AP Calc AB (self study BC maybe?)

This year I took
Calc BC
APLAC
AP Physics B
APUSH

Next year is looking much easier, so I may independent study a few classes also
Anyway the classes im signed up for next year are
AP lit and comp
AP Stats
AP cs
AP Chem
AP Psych

AP Physics C (three AP tests worth too – E, M, and Physics B)
AP English Lit

Self-study:
AP Microeconomics (shouldn’t be too hard with Macro in my schedule)
AP Comp Sci (no programming background, but the class at my school is terrible and I figure I can learn just as much from online tutorials and books)

This year:
AP Chemistry
AP U.S. History
AP Statistics

Next year:
AP Physics C (E&M and Mech)
AP Biology
AP Economics (Macro and Micro)

i may self study for AP Human Geography, because i’ve heard it’s relatively easy.

Prospective 12th grade plan:

US Government
English Literature
Statistics or Calculus BC
