I'm not quite done with my college search, but this is what I have so far. (I'd also appreciate any suggestions of universities that are similar to the ones I mentioned above)

I'm Korean, attending a small, private, competitive international school in Seoul; I grew up in California/New York until the beginning of freshman year. I'm a full IB diploma candidate; have taken all the highest-level courses available. (btw, I'm a girl)

GPA: 4.2 weighted (though my school's grading scale is 99-100=A+=4.3.. so it's kind of skewed)

If you could tell me what my chances are that would be great!! I'm pretty clueless right now. I know that a lot of people have better stats than me, especially with my US history AP/SATII scores, but there's nothing i can do about that now. thanks!!!

P.S. does anyone know any similar universities I can apply to, whether safeties or reaches?

I have no idea aboit international student. But I believe that the scores you get and the ECs can get you anywhere except Harvard, Yale, Stanford. U of Virginia is a good match. SInce you want to get into a top college, I presume, I think you should apply to colleges like Dartmouth, Cornell, Duke, Northwestern, which are easier to get into than others.

Are you in SFS? im a senior at TCIS...applied to Princeton, Cornell, Duke, Dartmouth, GAtech.

You seem to be on the road to an ivy no doubt. The GPA doesnt count much for int'ls unless you have transferred several schools in highschool - thats what many MIT and Princeton interviewers have said.

Anyway...maybe I'l meet you in BEIMUN... good luck on your college search!

Thank you so much everybody!! ivyleague, I'm a U.S. citizen (I go to an international school for students who AREN'T Korean citizens=) so I'll be able to apply as a domestic student.

callthecops, I do go to SFS! I'll be the delegate of Spain in the Human Rights forum. I went last year for my first MUN conference and it was awesome.

Again, thanks. Does anyone else have any opinions?

I'm the delgate of hungary in the disarmament committee...
by the way, im on the soccer team this year, and SFS isnt going to last out too long in the rounds ;)

I suggest you take a look at the sites for the individual unis on CC. they are VERY helpful.

Ok, hopefully I'll see you callthecops! Sorry, just wondering.. are you a girl or guy?

Thanks again for the advice. If any of the rest of yall out there wouldn't mind, I'd definitely appreciate your opinion..

I'm a guy...

Yeah, fair enough! Sorry if I offended you... I was wondering if you were talking about our boys' or girls' soccer team ;)

Watch out dude.. we still have our Guzman brothers!! :D

where are they from? im new this year to tcis...

Can I ask how you went from Math Methods to Maths higher in your senior year?

I think that you are in the running for the colleges that you have mentioned. You have excellent stats. However, in conjunction with your stats, make sure that your essay is as impressive.

callthecops, the Guzmans are two brothers from my school who are soccer fanatics.. they're very good! the older one (a senior) has been scouted by division I schools. They're half-Chilean, half-Japanese and damn cute and we love them to death;) But we did lose a lot of senior starters last year.. so it might be a struggle

Anonymous220, my school's weird like that! Math Methods is taught in 1 year, and then MathHL is taught in the following year. So to take MathHL at all, you have to take Methods first. Starting with the class of 2007 (I'm c/o '06) they've decided to change it.. and then both Methods and HL will be taught over two years, with the student deciding which track to take at the end of their sophomore year. I should have clarified that, sorry.

Sdma89, thanks for the input. I'll make sure to keep the advice about the essay in mind! =)

By the way, we just received our PSAT reports today (I know, took a while). I received 79 Critical Reading, 73 Math, and 80 Writing Skills (total 232). My math score went down from my sophomore year..! Will definitely have to be more careful not to make dumb mistakes. Overall, though, I'm pretty happy with my score!

Also, I think I will apply to Columbia as well. I lived in New York for 7 years before moving to Korea, which was the main reason I was averse to applying there (I want to experience someplace NEW!), but I've decided my experiences in NY in college will probably differ drastically from when I used to live there.

So, if anyone would be so kind as to review my stats, please let me know what you think about my chances for Columbia, too!!

hmmmmmm..... bump

I've just read the thread about people complaining about overacheivers just looking for praise or reassurance on this post.. and I'm pretty sure that I'll be considered as one of those overacheivers and I'm sorry if I come across like this. My little sister's a slacker for sure.. she's a brilliant writer but lazy as nothing else and she's always complaining about me overacheiving, so I'm really trying not to be so anal or whatever, get a life, yknow, the works. :D

Just gotta say in my defense though,

When you're Korean, and you're the first born kid (and grandkid for both sides of the family) it's awful hard to try to be anything but as perfect as you can be.

haha. this makes me laugh
