Juniors:How did others' acceptances/rejections impact you?

Aight so now that the seniors are getting their decisions back from ED/EA , how have some of those rejections/acceptances impacted your confidence regarding getting into your first choice.

Since my first choice is Boston College, I was very happy to find out that quite a few "average"people were able to get in. With an "average" GPA and from what I know, 2k-2100 SAT's.

Same with NYU, another one of my top choices.

Just shows how much of an impact a school's reputation has on college admissions. I doubt anyone from Idaho would've gotten into those schools with those stats.
But then again, maybe they're not exactly "average" because I'm comparing them with those from CC.

my good friend got into stanford with a 1980 SAT

^Funny, 2 2400s from my school got rejected

showed how applying to stanford is pointless…;

i think it just goes to show you that SAT’s aren’t everything

EVERYONE is getting rejected from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, I mean EVERYONE.

I know a girl who had a 3.6 GPA, all AP’s, 35 ACT and great EC’s, and she was rejected from the U of Minnesota as well as St. Cloud State.

Things are not looking good for the class of 2010. =/

lol exactly what quadonfait said

I’m still going to apply, but I’m already convinced that I won’t get in (though I’ll still work my ass off to try!)

Acceptances to UPenn, Yale, Brown, and Cornell among others. Our '09 class is extremely intelligent and talented.

Acceptance to NYU. That’s all I know of. Our '09 sucks.

Everyone who did ED to [insert school here] has been rejected and only one has been deferred (Cornell).

xD. Wow…my brother here in FL with 32 ACT, 3.6 GPA, not exactly the best EC’s, got in.

Maybe because we’re Hispanic?

College is crapshoot. Do your best is what I figured.
Six early decisions into Cornell (2 i know personally)
So I’m trying to not **** off seniors, but I’m skirting around to try to find ppl like me to see what chance I personally have at getting into a decent college (crapshoot I know).

At the very least I will be part of the graduating class of 2014 of some four year university.

In terms of where I’m at for applying, I’m trying my hand at two national competitions, I’m trying to finish off my collegeboards, but my health is not cooperating.aka this is constantly hijacking my efforts to obtain pwnage scores. I’m trying to jack up my GPA as much as possible, but the fact that maybe the pace of the courses I’m taking has also heighted in caliber is not helping. So I’m not getting the grades I expected. For X amount of effort Y amount of results comes out. I’ve learned this formula fails. I’m also trying to find a first choice college. I mean a reach perhaps a very high reach I will apply to for ED/EA if I get done with all the req’s by June of 09.

idk about any one at my school, but i know 1 brown deferred and 1 yale accepted, hopefully 1 pratt accepted too :)

All this goes to show you the importance of essays.

We got like 15 people into Cornell while everyone else got owned by all the other ivies. Cornell <3 our school.

Yeah. After seeing all the rejects/failures - Acceptance is subjective.

2380s get rejected from NYU - But, yet an 1800 gets in? The hell?

Shines some hope on Northeastern for me, however!

It’s kinda scary! Really puts everything into perspective…
Didn’t think I would start planning/thinking about college so early but all the craziness with the seniors in my school made me realize how hard it’s gonna be next year

I have like half of my classes with seniors and all the buzz about how long it takes to get your transcript/meeting your counselor/putting materials together for recommendations…etc taught me that I really need to get a head start in the summer…and ask for all those counselor/teacher stuff really early on in the school year!

Not many people applied to top schools for EA/ED this year…a couple rejected at UChicago…one accepted to Duke…a couple to Vanderbilt. Not that many rejections so far! We’ll have to see how it turns out in the spring. I

t’s making ME kinda nervous waiting for all the decisions…anyone else feeling this way?

About the subjective part:

That is one thing I definitely noticed in this last wave of ED applicants in 09 thus far.

I used to see top colleges as evil, cold, heartless institutions whose doors were open exclusively to those who’ve had their lives handed on a platter to them by their parents. All those kids who were able to take the $100 /hr Tennis or Fencing lessons, had test prep payed for, went through an over-priced private education system, etc. In essence, exactly what George W. Bush was as a child.

The admission of this kid to Boston College that I mentioned earlier, basically threw my theory out the door. He was a good student, no doubt, but I can guarantee you his SAT/GPA was probably below mid-range when compared to past/other ED applicants. BUT, he had one very unique EC which he did entirely by HIMSELF, not something his daddy put together and stamped the kid’s name on it.

I’m actually scared! My brother is another over-achiever and did tremendous amount of activities outside school and has a solid GPA. He didn’t do too well on the SATs though. But he got Rejected from Columbia and Deferred from Tulane (Which is my dream school)…

…but in the bright side, it’s making me think of more realistic college choices.

a load of people got into cornell. avg accepted into cornell from our school is about 4.2 weighted, it’s a little ridiculous

Haha I dont think anyone applies to Cornell from our school. We have either really really high achievers who apply to HYPS or really low achievers who apply to the state school or the community college.

Most low achievers though.

@ CharrizeAvendano–Yeah definitely! I’m trying to make myself like more matches/safeties instead of filling my list up with reaches (It’s still mostly reaches though…haha). On the other hand, it’s making me really paranoid or something. Like I feel like I won’t get in anywhere because I don’t feel that I’m THAT much more special than those deferred/rejected.

WE’ll have to see what happens April! I’m kinda scared waiting. Good luck to all the seniors!
