Juniors Interested in Wellesley!

I am a junior myself and I am very curious to know what the people who got accepted did?

At first.. I thought, "WELLESLEY? MOM, are you kidding me? It's a WOMEN'S college." But of course, I visited and fell in love. (:

Currently, Wellesley is my first choice school. I'm basically putting all my eggs in one basket and applying ONLY to Wellesley Early.. Everywhere else regular.

Not to flatter myself, but I do have an impressive set of credentials that I'm hoping the school will like.

My school has a pretty strange GPA system and my GPA currently is around a 4.3 (The highest possible I think is a 4.7? I'm not exactly sure)

-2 years of Marching Band
-Chem League
-Bio Leauge
-Many art awards
-Scholarship to an art college summer program
-Many awards in DECA (brought me to states and nationals)
-2 years of Model UN
-2 years of School Newspaper
-Photo Editor of yearbook
-High Honors all throughout high school (hopefully this year too)
-By the end of senior year 7 AP classes
-and a lot more...

I just took the SAT's in March and I'm awaiting my score.
I did okay on my PSAT.. 206. :/

I want to MAYBE dual major in an art and a science.

How much weight do you think Wellesley puts on GPA, SAT scores, personal credentials, and the essay?

I applied EE, and from what I've read, they put a lot of weigh on your GPA and your essay. The other stuff is important, but not as essential. Wellesley really wants to get to know you as a person, in my opinion, so they see your essay as a testament not only of your writing skills, but also your personality and life experiences. Don't stress out about writing the "perfect" essay, just be honest and insightful. Your stats look good (though I really can't interpet your GPA) so I say your for sure have a good chance. Applying ED will increase your chances too. Good luck!

Your GPA and SAT look great. And it sounds that you have something else to offer to the college besides your numbers. Wellesley, I was told, puts a lot of emphasis on essays and I believe the admissions tracks your interest. If you already visited, it is a great start. If a Wellesley rep shows up at your school, go to the presentation and introduce yourself. You might even get an invitation to a tea/presentation about Wellesley organized by your local Wellesley alums (my D did) - do not miss a chance to talk to successful Wellesley graduates.

I'm glad you're interested. I fell in love with it, too!

It doesn't really help, but I've gotten the feeling that EVERYTHING is important to Wellesley. If any one part of your application is lacking, that can really hurt your chances.

That said, when it comes down to it, I think SAT and GPA way outweigh everything else. I think my above-average SAT (2310), since my application was pretty solid, helped me more than anything else. Your GPA looks good, so you've got that covered. Concentrate on your SAT now. A 2060 wouldn't hurt, since it's just a little below average, but it probably won't help. Obviously, an SAT can be a lot better than an PSAT scores (mine definitely was).

If you've got both of those covered, then I think everything else comes in. As Bunsen said, work really hard on your essay. Show Wellesley that you love them, and write a strong, personal "Why Wellesley" essay. I'm not sure, but I think it also helps to have some sort of angle. For me, I've worked a lot with politics and law, so that sort of tied my EC's and academic interests together. Same thing probably goes for people strong in the arts or sports. You seem really well-rounded, which is definitely good, but make sure you come across as kind of cohesive and driven in one way or another.

Good luck! Applying ED is a really good option. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. :)
