JUNIORS- what's your list looking like?

Isn’t UChicago the only non-restrictive early action school on your list?

Georgetown and UVM too.

I’d be grateful of some help please!

Currently I’m a junior…
I’m 1# of my class at a private school on academic scholarship, a peer group leader, leader of the flute section of the school orchestra, co-leader of my school choir, leader of the flute section of my country’s national youth orchestra, came third in nationals for cross-country for my age group, am the captain of the cross-country/road race team for my school, in the school Yearbook committee (will be editor next year), leader of the creative writing club for my school, won the national poetry society competition for school students two years in a row and was part of the national mathematical olympiad camp and trying to get into the team.
At the local university I take math and English lit classes.
I speak three languages and have also gone on Argentinan exchange which included a week helping out in the neighborhood of orphans (which I might write about in my essay).
My volunteering is teaching disabled children and doing ‘mentoring’ work with kids from disfunctional families.
I’m studying for SAT II, I’ll be doing English Literature, Math 1 and Spanish. My SAT scores are writing, reading and math; 790, 730, 800, a total of 2320 (I’ve only taken it once).

So I’m from New Zealand, and here is my college list:
High Reach:
Harvard
Princeton
Stanford

Match:
Brown
NYU
Berkeley

Safety:
Auckland University (could graduate there with a scholarship a year early though)

^ I dunno about that 730 reading score. It makes you look unbalanced. If you were 1st or 2nd in nationals, that might be different, but gee … only 3rd? New Zealand is a pretty small country after all.

Seriously, what kind of help do you want?
To judge from your outstanding qualifications I’m betting you’ll manage to muddle through all by yourself

Just out of curiosity though, why did you pick those schools? Why not Yale for instance? Why Brown, not Columbia (if New York City is appealing enough to choose NYU)?

Regarding Chicago, where I applied, I would highly recommend submitting under the EA option given the substantial admission boost provided to early applicants.

It would be great to get some advise on college choices. I am looking for a school with a good Asian Studies department. I would like to look west of the Mississippi River. My list so far includes Claremont McKenna College (high reach), Occidental College (match), Santa Clara University (match), Colorado College (match), Trinity University (match) and Whitman (match). Any other suggestions?

Reach: Duke, Colgate
Match: Richmond, Trinity, BC
Safety: Elon
There are more but I didn’t feel like typing them

Crewguy, for small liberal arts colleges West of the Mississippi with decent Asian Studies programs, you’ve already hit some of the better options.

Also check out these Minnesota schools:
Carleton College (about as selective as CMK)
Macalester College (about as selective as Colorado College and Whitman)

If you’re willing to consider a larger school, check out the University of Washington (maybe a low match or safety for you).

I made some changes to my list

Reaches - Kenyon College, Claremont McKenna College

Matches - Illinois Wesleyan University, Beloit College, Lawrence University, Trinity University, Loyola Marymount University

Safeties - Truman State University, Earlham College

Safeties: UT Austin, St. Edward’s (my mom is making me apply there)
Matches: Allegheny, Beloit, Bryn Mawr, Wooster
Reaches: Carleton, Kenyon, Smith (might actually be a match), Vassar

Bump… I’m really interested in this thread.

Well I’m not a genius like most of you on here.
Here’s my top 4:

Loyola University in Maryland

Seton Hall University (nj)

Syracuse University

Rowan University (nj)

I haven’t really looked around but I visited Loyola and LOVED it.

Stats: 2320 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA (although I’ve slacked off pretty badly in AP Bio this year… but should be able to make an A), 10-11 APs by graduation, meh ECs. From Alaska. Intended major: math, stats, or CS. Engineering must be available just in case.

This is my big list - I won’t apply to all of these.
• = special interest and most likely an application, % = very interested with some caveats, ^ = limited interest and on list for mostly parental reasons

MIT *
U Toronto *
U Rochester %
Cornell ^
U Alberta %+
U Michigan %
U Waterloo *
U British Columbia %
U Pittsburgh *
U Washington %
U Minnesota *
SUNY Stony Brook %
U Utah %

Hi guys,
I don’t have a formal list with reaches and safeties set in stone yet but I figured you could help me.
I’m a white male attending a private, catholic highschool in New Jersey. I have a ~4.3 GPA with weights and a ~3.8 GPA without. I won’t get my SAT scores back for a week, but let’s assume for the sake of this list I got a 2060 (best estimate of my scores in each section) with a 640 in Math, 700 in Critical Reading, and 720 in Writing. I’m involved in 8 clubs, 3 of which I hold leadership positions in. I have won local awards for writing and I am an associate editor on our school paper which happens to be one the most acclaimed high school newspapers in the country. I’m mainly interested in English.

Schools thus far (please help organize them into reach, match and safety)
Boston College
Villanova
Lehigh
William and Mary
Colgate
Bucknell
Middlebury
Johns Hopkins

I know alot of them are very (perhaps overly) ambitious but I’m also open to suggestions for more match or safeties if you think I’m aiming too high. I know tk21769 has been very helpful to many posters thus far and I thank you in advance for your help and the help of anyone else.

Fairly liberal
